Isn't that the velocipedal equivalent of the "balding dentist
on a brand new Harley?" :)

I've never ridden a bicycle with disc brakes. Mine's a
20-year-old hybrid with caliper brakes.

I have to safety check mine and test ride it this weekend.

Hee. Not quite, I'm supposed to get more exercise and I don't know of
any doctors that would prescribe a motorcycle for that. :P

Good for you, then. I'm supposed to get off my fundament and
burn some calories, too. My MD approves of the bike, or walking.
Key word, "low impact."

"The Grasshopper Lies Heavy" is the title of a story within the story of
_The Man in the High Castle_ (PKD). Germany and Japan win WWII in the
PKD. And "The Grasshopper Lies Heavy"'s the title of a subversive
alternate history story where the Allies win WWII.
"The Grasshopper Lies Heavy" originates with Eccl 12:5. That
Biblical verse pertains to a man's second childhood, an experience which
is terrifying.
There's a mountain on the other side of a highway from a pond near
my back yard. In warm weather, it's a common for me to pedal a bicycle
up and down the mountain. It works best for me to use the rear brake as
my primary brake because the thought of leading with the front brake on
the way down is just too terrifying.

Thank you,

Practice "modulating" your front brake on a less steep descent,
or on the flat. The superior stopping power of the front brake is
actually safer, once you have learned how to use it.

I'm assuming your route up and down the mountain is on a paved
road. Riding on a trail, relying on the back brake primarily
would be called for.
