_The Perseid Collapse_ (The Perseid Collapse Series) (Volume 1) by Steven Konkoly
    http://www.amazon.com/Perseid-Collapse/dp/1493695649/

Book number 2 of a five book series. This is actually a four book series plus a prequel book, _The Jakarta Pandemic_. The book is a
POD printing in trade paperback (my favorite!).

Six years after the Jakarta Pandemic that killed 30 million people in the USA and one billion people worldwide, the USA economy has
mostly recovered from the pandemic. Then, somebody detonated a nuclear bomb high above the eastern seaboard of the USA. The
resulting fire burst above Boston, 60 foot tsunami and EMP practically destroy the entire eastern seaboard of the USA. Our hero and
his buddies send their families inland to his parents house on bicycles due to a severe lack of running vehicles. Then they take the
running Jeep that they have into the outskirts of Boston to rescue their kids at Boston University. The story ends on a cliff hanger.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Amazon rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars (525 reviews)

Forgot to mention that the author has a website at:
    http://stevenkonkoly.com/

He has a very interesting post at:
    http://stevenkonkoly.com/2015/07/03/surviving-ku-2-0/
where he describes his payments for people only reading parts of his books in Kindle Unlimited. 0.6 cents per page is the going rate
at Amazon. Interesting, kind of a micro payment thing.

Gosh, a massive tsunami just happening to occur at the same time as
an entirely unrelated event high in the atmosphere! What are the odds?

(Seriously, did you leave something out or did the author really
think that it's that easy to create a big wave?)

The book sounds like a typical survivalist fantasy. They're usually not
too well connected to the realities of their UN/Black
Helicopter/Socialist Government conspiracy's preferred method of world
destruction. :)

The nuclear air burst caused an earthquake which caused the tsunami:

Nuclear air bursts can't cause earthquakes. Particularly not ones under
the water.

I need to quote from the classics here:

[Zoidberg's underwater house has just burnt down]

Zoidberg: My home! How did it burn down?

   Hermes: That's a good question.

Bender: [Retrieving a lit cigar from the ashes] So that's
           where my cigar went.

Hermes: That just raises further questions!

I was impressed once by a forest fire investigation. They found the
particular cigarette that started it and from the brand, concluded
that the offender was probably female.

Finding one cigarette next to a many-square-mile fire is impressive.

Hmmm, self-inflicted EMP from trying to divert a meteor strike at the
last minute and failing? Engaging full handwavium, something coming down
at an odd angle going to hit southern states, bomb intended to divert it
up and fragment it so it hits the south Pacific in pieces instead brings
it down and east...
