why:
Hello, I'm a Senior PHP developer from Brazil. A few years ago I
discovered the Perl language, and with it I had the opportunity to
learn a whole new world, one I felt I had arrived in too late.
Even so, I never had the opportunity to learn anything like Perl. I
tried with all my heart to find a way to program something useful
for myself, or even contribute to the community, and I was always
frustrated trying to find a way to improve my skills. While at work,
finding something to do, even with languages I didn't particularly
like, was always very easy.
However, today I was flipping through one of the old Perl books I
bought back then, and I saw something that completely changed my
afternoon: "Taking Over a Perl Module." That's when I learned what
the module adoption process is, and I rushed to research it: I found
several packages marked as ADOPTME on Metacpan.
Throughout all my years in IT, and unfortunately lacking experience
with free software, I didn't even know that the process of adopting
a module existed in PHP. As far as I know, abandonment occurs for
different (and much sadder) reasons than I imagine it does in Perl.
I believe that applying for module adoption could be a fresh start
for me, or rather: a beginning I never had. Obviously, I have a long
learning/updating journey ahead of me, but whenever I think of this
language, I remember the debt I owe it (besides everything I
learned, at such a vital time in my career (19-22 years old), what
would PHP be without Perl?).
I kindly ask that you consider my request, and I thank you in
advance for keeping this community and this language alive.
