Health officials have issued an ocean water closure at Thalia Beach in
the city of Laguna Beach following a 2,000-gallon sewage spill.

On July 2, around 2,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the waters due to
a malfunction of a force main sewer line pump, the OC Health Care Agency
said.

An ocean water closure was issued for one quarter mile upcoast to one
quarter mile downcoast of Anita Street at Thalia Beach, in the city of
Laguna Beach.

The affected area will remain closed to the public for at least three
days and until follow-up water quality test results “meet acceptable
standards,” health officials said.

“We’re closely monitoring an active sewage spill of approximately 2,000
gallons in Laguna Beach, caused by a malfunction of a force main sewer
line pump,” said O.C. Supervisor Katrina Foley. “Orange County
Environmental Health is assessing water quality and determining the
extent of necessary beach and ocean closures over the holiday weekend.”

The public is asked to follow all posted closure signs and to avoid
entering the water until further notice.

More information on Orange County ocean, bay or harbor postings and
closures can be found by calling 714-433-6400 or visiting
