Given the way things are going, as a tiny country NZ faces trade
issues that it cannot control with Trump simply ignoring rules-based
trade, the UN and every other international rules he deems
unfavourable.  It is not yet out of control and Congress may yet
reassert its power over the POTUS, but we cannot count on this.

Australia as a state:

Our PM would be reduced to a state Premier, but we would have a
substantial presence in Canberra in both the house and the senate as
befits the third most populous state.

I would have been one of them, but a point has been made that I have
never considered - we would have a significant number of Senators and
MPs in the House of Representatives, and they use the STV system (not
MMP).

Australia has been demented ever since the Covid lockdowns, worse than
us.  They have lost all sense and heart.  Look at the Labor idiots
ruling them now, and there is a question over whether their last
election got stolen, although the media avoids that topic, of course.


Better for us to integrate militarily with the USA to keep China out.
But even before that, we must close the immigration door.

Keep in mind that there are states in Oz.

Mark Carney gave a speech about the rupture, not a transistion, which is
happening presently. He also told Trump that his "offer" was not accepted
and they would be shopping elsewhere.

The new way of thinking is one of picking partners for a project, eg for
defence but the country does not go whole heartly into a all emcompassing
treaty. A country needs to pick and choose what is best for the country.

Some how I can't  see NZ politicians giving up their  overseas junkets
and have their  status reduced to  a state governor.

i watched Trump on Fox Network this week.

He was arguing with a blond reporter who was getting the better of him

She talked louder than he did and frustrated  him

He became very red

 A few weeks ago, Trump made an ugly comment about how UK soldiers didn’t
pull their weight

A few days later, he sort of apologized, posting a long sort of admission
that, in fact, they all fought bravely.  But no actual apology.  He
obviously gets out of control very easily, and at least one person knows
how to check him and rein him in. Not sure who tho.

I wonder who forced him to do this (against his will).  Because, in the
past, he asserted and averred he NEVER apologizes, because he is never
wrong.

Still no apology, but the admission that UK fought bravely and lost many
brave men is a small start.  Hey Trump! Now do Denmark, Canada, Germany,
France, Italy, Australia,…etc, and yes, even Ukraine.
