replacing spaces with single TAB woulld likely help.
Yes just that reduces it from 3.4M to 1.4M
not as readable though, using multiple TABs would help with the
readability while still saving considerable size.

Or even have the full file somehere else for reference, and just a
useful selection in /etc/services.
