Hello everyone,

my laptop has two graphic devices. According to my hardware probe it
does not utilize the actual graphic card or at least something seems
wrong with it. I tried installing additional driver packages:
xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu mesa-va-drivers but it did not change
anything it seems. From other probes I see linux does support it on
other laptops. I wonder what am I missing?

Keywords are "hybrig graphics" and "PRIME". Maybe, these links can be helpful:

Try it without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and read the Debian Stretch part in
the Debian wiki. What's the output of the "xrandr" commands listed in the wiki?

Regards,
Jörg.

Thank you Jörg.
So I followed the instructions here as AMD GPU from what I read should
support my Radeon 520 Mobile
https://wiki.debian.org/AMDGPUDriverOnStretchAndBuster2

But I have problems with the installation of both versions 19.3 and
19.5. My kernel is 5.4.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.4.19-1 (2020-02-13)
x86_64 GNU/Linux
Since there is no linux-headers-5.4.0-4-amd64 package I assume I need
linux-headers-5.4.0-4-common but installation still fails.

The make.log says:
/var/lib/dkms/amdgpu/19.30-934563/build/include/kcl/kcl_drm.h:6:10:
fatal error: drm/drmP.h: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden / File
or directory not found

libdrm-dev is installed.
I'm confused why it says "Building initial module for 5.5.0-1-amd64"
while I don't have that kernel installed.

sudo dpkg -i amdgpu-dkms_19.30-934563_all.deb

I'm not sure why xrandr command you refer to specifically. This one?
xrandr --listproviders

In case of a missing file I consult https://packages.debian.org/ "Search the
contents of packages". There is also the package apt-file.
The package linux-headers-5.4.0-4-common from bullseye contains a file
/usr/src/linux-headers-5.4.0-4-common/include/drm/drmP.h

I don't have access to that GPU or experience with Radeon 520 Mobile.
According to https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?id=pci%3A1002-6660-103c-8331
it should be supported by Linux kernel 5.4.

Regards,
Jörg.

Hi Jörg-Volker and Felix,
appreciate your help!
Here is the complete output for: sudo dpkg -i
amdgpu-core_19.30-934563_all.deb amdgpu-dkms_19.30-934563_all.deb
https://pastebin.com/kadr0nyH

My sources list is (apart from docker, and skype repos):
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ unstable main non-free contrib
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ unstable main non-free contrib

I did not install that kernel manually, just what I get by "apt dist-upgrade"
And I can confirm that the file exists on my system:

ls /usr/src/linux-headers-5.4.0-4-common/include/drm/drmP.h
/usr/src/linux-headers-5.4.0-4-common/include/drm/drmP.h

@Felix, yes, for firmware-amd-graphics apt says it is the newest
version: 20190717-2

As far as I understand, kernel 5.4 supports your GPU.
What is the outcome of the two commands

$ lsmod | grep amdgpu
$ find /lib/modules -name 'amdgpu*'

The packages you try to install are not from Debian, maybe they are not up to date.

Regards,
Jörg.

I will keep trying, especially when I am on kernel 5.5 :)
