Hi. Would like to publish some open source software. In the past I used sourceforge but I don't like their policies anymore. Is git the way to go nowadays? But then again I do not like MS `|` github. Any recommendations please...

I'm not registered there nor have any repositories there but may in the future. I see a lot of Free Software development migrating to Gitlab: https://about.gitlab.com/ It is also a product that can be self hosted as some projects are doing. - Nate -- "The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. When I have to pay to contribute to the community... I rather host it myself (as I do now)

I'm not affiliated with Gitlab in any way. -- John Doe

Probably not recommended for big-ish projects as it's a little bit resource constrained. Depending on the size of the project and expected contributors something like Gitlab might be overkill. You could get away with plain git if you can make it accessible for others to clone from. Kind regards, Andrei -- http://wiki.debian.org/FAQsFromDebianUser

Besides gitlab, which was mentioned elsewhere in this thread, there is Savannah [1] (recommended if you prefer the "Free" spelling of "Open Source" ;-) If you're looking for others, this Wikipedia [2] entry might be also interesting to you. They required "corrections" to the documentation such as replacement of all mentions of Linux with GNU/Linux. I have no objection to their terminology but imposing a (retroactive!) requirement of ideologically correct language on hosted projects seemed a bit too intrusive to me. -- John Hasler jhasler@newsguy.com Elmwood, WI USA

Yes, that's why I added that constraint. > I have no objection to their terminology but imposing a (retroactive!) > requirement of ideologically correct language on hosted projects seemed > a bit too intrusive to me.
