I get allblank with javascript disabled, the article with javascript
activated. It's one of those JS only site

Two things you could try:

    1. firefox --safe-mode
    2. stop Firefox, rename ~/.mozilla (i.e. where your profile is) and 
    start Firefox

and Thunderbird, the URL opens perfectly.
