Kinda spammy, I did NOT click any of the the links or try to open them.

My guess is you are a bot, or some type of otherwise ad revenue scam. The
post is spam? You're really good at what you do!

Good Luck,

No programmer is good enough to make a bot like Gene. No human is even good
enough to be like Gene.

Thanks for the flowers Larry.

BTW, Larry Martel is one of the better python programmers on this ball of
rock and water. But he doesn't work for free. I am proud to call Larry
and Carol friends for the last what, 15+ years? Probably longer.

Cheers, Gene Heskett

I disagree, now that I think about it. I remember Lisa, and I know there have
been great advances in AI (e.g., neural networks, ...)

What a stroke of genius by the programmer -- they give "Gene" this amazing
backstory and history, and then intentionally have him inject portions of the
(back)stories in his emails to make him seem like a cantankerous old man.

Then he posts problems on the list that no real computer intelligence would
experience, just as part of the experiment to see how many and for how long he
can fool people on this list.

How could we doubt that he is human?

I wonder when the big reveal will occur?

In the end, the Turing Test was another AI sham. Then humans couldnt tell
the difference any more :-) Blade Runner is now. To save humanity we must
become part machine. That is not crossing a divide, merely the next step in
our evolution. In a straight line from our prior milestones.

You bots are very clever, Mick, but you can't fool me -- obviously, because
John is the only human here, you (mick) must be a bot.

Hmm, but, then, so am I, but I can't tell, I mean, I look (somewhat) human,
my flesh feels like what I think human flesh must feel like. I eat, and have
other bodily functions -- I can't believe it, I've even fooled myself!

But, then, is even John a human. I can't remember the brain teaser exactly
(or how it is resolved), but I remember one something about an island full of
liars (and maybe one person that told the truth) -- and, iirc, all of them
would claim that they are not liars, and that everyone else is. How do you
detect the one truth teller? (I'm sure I have that garbled -- maybe I should
try googling for it -- ahh, ok, the liar's paradox and some variations.)

I just can't believe that I'm a bot -- I mean, I even apparently changed size
over the years, and show signs of aging... Wow!

A bot? Thats a hoot. I am an 84 yo retired broadcast engineer, trying to
catch up on the local news after spending the last 2 weeks in the shop
with a few yards of hoses, wires, etc because of a heart attack. Not
fully fixed yet, needs a new aortic valve.

And I'd like to be able to at least get an error message giving me a
clue what to do when at least 25% of the news sites I visit are
similarly blank pages. That story is from about 50 miles south of me. So
of course I am interested in it.

Plain to see that you get much of your exercise jumping to conclusions.

In addition to add-ons such as NoScript, take a look at the settings in
Preferences->Privacy&Security in Firefox. These sites want to pull
in scripts from dozens of sites as well as setting trackers and storing
cookies and site data on your machine. They usually work ok without
most of it but there's often some they just can't live without. It's
inconceivable to the Web designers that you might want to simply read
the text. They're certain that you need an "enhanced user experience".

An attitude I'd cheerfully beat them with, if I was 65 years younger.
