Greetings all stretch based install from linuxcnc.org here, trying to get awstats to work, which worked great on wheezy. www-data is present in /etc/passwd This file is present in /etc/cron.d as awstats MAILTO=root */10 * * * * www-data [ -x /usr/share/awstats/tools/update.sh ] && /usr/share/awstats/tools/update.sh # Generate static reports: 10 03 * * * www-data [ -x /usr/share/awstats/tools/buildstatic.sh ] && /usr/share/awstats/tools/buildstatic.sh But when I get root with sudo -i and attempt an su www-data I get root@coyote:~$ su www-data This account is currently not available. Whats the debian stretch legal way to fix this? Thank you! Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. According to the log, its still running at 10 minute intervals, but its not emailing me any error messages now, but also in not updateing anything in the /var/www/awstats directory. And spamd is dumping 20 lines of debug crap to the syslog, causing it to be rotated out from under a tail on it so I can see whats going on, in less than a days time. So when something happens that should still be onscreen via the tail, the onscreen is out of date by 2 or 3 days. So as a log, thats worthless, and its logging SHOULD be going to ~/log/mail.log, so something has broken that, where to I find that. procmail is launching that for every incoming email, using this recipe: SPAMBOX = "/home/gene/Mail/spam/new" :O * SPAM=| spamd --stfout - $SPAMBOX And I just found the awstats failure message is being sent to www-data. Put a tail on that puppy. I'm going to need some headache powders. Now if folks would actually write a man page. And to top that off, my coffee is cold... No, I was awake, but after 84 years, the short term memory is gone. But that still leaves why spamd is such a spammer itself, spamming the syslog until its drowned out anything else that might be interesting. I'd guess, that at the level of incoming traffic, syslog is over 95% from spamd. If spamd was in trouble it might be interesting, but its working just fine so I could sure send it to dev / null and not miss a thing.
