| Subject | id_dsa - not in PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes |
| Message-ID | <ykPcu-41q-7@gated-at.bofh.it> |
hi,
have When trying a passwordless connection via ssh, I have now the message:
id_dsa - not in PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes
although it is actually in /etc/ssh/sshd_config
It worked until yesterday, but I'm unable to find what config change can
give this result...
best regards,

Perhaps it's the server who changed its mind?
What's the output if you try to add the -v option ("verbose") to
your ssh connection attempt?
Cheers

Yep. But is it the server rejecting it? Then you'd have to "fix" the server
(or adapt to it).
Cheers

Hi Pierre, On 17.07.19 12:42, Pierre Frenkiel wrote: > it's the -v option which gives " id_dsa - not in PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes Try -vvvv. :) id_dsa is deprecated though, probably you want to switch to a more secure key type anyway. Best wishes Michael

IDK whether it's relevant to your problem, but this announcement from
the 12th, may be helpful;
openssh (1:8.0p1-1) experimental; urgency=medium
OpenSSH 8.0 includes a number of changes that may affect existing
configurations:
* sshd(8): Remove support for obsolete "host/port" syntax.
Slash-separated host/port was added in 2001 as an alternative to
host:port syntax for the benefit of IPv6 users. These days there
are established standards for this like [::1]:22 and the slash
syntax is easily mistaken for CIDR notation, which OpenSSH supports
for some things. Remove the slash notation from ListenAddress and
PermitOpen.

According to the buster manpage of sshd_config:
PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes
Specifies the key types that will be accepted for public key
authentication as a list of comma-separated patterns. Alternately
if the specified value begins with a ‘+’ character, then the
specified key types will be appended to the default set instead of
replacing them. If the specified value begins with a ‘-’
character, then the specified key types (including wildcards) will
be removed from the default set instead of re‐
placing them. The default for this option is:
ecdsa-sha2-nistp256-cert-v01@openssh.com,
ecdsa-sha2-nistp384-cert-v01@openssh.com,
ecdsa-sha2-nistp521-cert-v01@openssh.com,
ssh-ed25519-cert-v01@openssh.com,
rsa-sha2-512-cert-v01@openssh.com,rsa-sha2-256-cert-v01@openssh.com,
ssh-rsa-cert-v01@openssh.com,
ecdsa-sha2-nistp256,ecdsa-sha2-nistp384,ecdsa-sha2-nistp521,
ssh-ed25519,rsa-sha2-512,rsa-sha2-256,ssh-rsa
The list of available key types may also be obtained using "ssh -Q key".
So there is nothing for dsa, only ecdsa.
The default list in stretch is shorter but doesn’t have a dsa type
either.
Shade and sweet water!

I can only repeat my former question: either the client or the server changed. Did the server get an update, for example? To your second question... I don't know. Perhaps someone else chimes in. yes, I am both user and admin.
I did an upgrade, but only for the libreoffice packages
So, nothing to do with ssh
And I still not understand, even if id_dsa is obsolete, the message
id_dsa - not in PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes

Software update, rebooting are just two possibilities.

Cryptographic advice is a matter of a) research and b) trust. Some hopefully knowledgeable people wrote a blog entry with recommendations: https://paragonie.com/blog/2019/03/definitive-2019-guide-cryptographic-key-sizes-and-algorithm-recommendations There exists also this site that lists different recognized recommendations: https://www.keylength.com Best wishes Michael
