[1] Someone who has only a recent AMD GPU has no need for every DDX still provided by Xorg, which is all the -all metapackage exists to bloat the installation with. That metapackage typically prevents use of the often best available FOSS DDX, modesetting, by Intel, AMD and NVidia GPUs. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. [1] > > > [1] https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AMDGPU That page has a section titled "Specify the correct module order". I don't think I can remember ever reading of the ability to do that so I'm highlighting in case it helps anyone else. That's nice to know. When I read you saying removal might snag Desktop Environment, potential for module competition conflict due to the race to load everything FAST at bootup came to mind. The ability to specify module order would help take care of that. PS I also encountered "libdrm-amdgpu1" via "apt-cache search" while lurking along here. Am highlighting in case it either helps or needs a "NO, don't ever try that if you don't have to" review. Psychedelic sounds fun as a user CHOICE. I was hoping for a printscreen. That's odd that it printed normal. I'm trying to wrap my head around the computer's logic of how that would happen. If so, a reseat of RAM modules might be a solution, and overnight memtest86 (not memtest86+) might be in order. Maybe it's time to find some other display to try. And the newer kernel might want some specific cmdline option to keep AMD happy, maybe iommu. https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/x86/x86_64/boot-options.txt -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. If the video works, the problem is configuration. If the video fails identically, problem is quite probably hardware. -- Carl Fink nitpicking@nitpicking.com Read my blog at blog.nitpicking.com. It's curious that this weirdness happened immediately following the move of 'buster' to 'stable'.
