Rereading THIS part again now, it reminded me that someone "somewhat
recently" wrote about issues with her (?) laptop's lid mechanism
somehow not triggering the expected suspension recovery behavior. I
don't remember if they ever solved that. If I come back across that
thread, I'll post it here. Just saying it out loud in case someone
else remembers that same thread and thus can reference it faster than
I can find it.

Months, not weeks.

<https://wiki.debian.org/DebianBuster> has the known information, which
is not much.

Q1) Just wondered how soon is soon?  Only asking because I am about to
install Debian on a netbook for a friend.  If the Buster release is
within a few weeks, I can perhaps wait for 10 to be released.

Q2) On a similar note (more for me) As we are on 9.8 will there be a 9.9
or are we going straight from 9.8 to 10?

Back to the topic though I have buster on another netbook ( I have a few
netbooks ), so will see if this problem occurs on that computer,

Is there a list of related keybindings anywhere please?

Thanks

Regards

Paul

Stretch will be supported for at least one year after the release of
buster, so there will most likely be a few more point releases, even
after the release of buster.

For jessie the last point release was 8.11 according to:
https://www.debian.org/releases/jessie
By that time stretch was already at 9.4 according to my debian-announce
archive.

Kind regards,
Andrei
