Does any else have a Debian installed on a pc with a Intel Sky Lake
processor? Has anyone got it configured properly without any boot
errors?

Just curious.

Skylake is now well-supported. I am using unstable on a Kaby Lake i7
7700, one release later than Skylake. I installed stretch shortly before
it was released and immediately upgraded to unstable. I think the
stretch kernel was 4.9 something (and still is). I had no problems with
the kernel (just problems with early motherboard UEFI setting incorrect
turbo frequencies, all fixed now). Anyone using 3.x or early 4.x kernels
on Skylake is going to have a bad time i.e. wheezy or jessie without
jessie-backports). 4.9 should be fine. There is a 4.15 kernel on
unstable and stretch-backports.

Kind regards,

I have an i5-6600 SkyLake CPU and it works without any problems
whatsoever on Debian 9 'stretch' x86_64 with kernel 4.14 from
stretch-backports.

What errors do you have and what makes you think it is CPU's fault?

Your CPU is Kaby Lake, not Sky Lake.
Assuming that you have some sort of laptop, I'd suggest you to update
BIOS\UEFI firmware first, if you can.
Download it from website of your hardware manufacturer. That could solve
some ACPI errors which are often firmware related.
Provide us with more information about your hardware and OS. Also post
some error messages you have.
Use this command to see all logged messages for current boot session:
$ sudo journalctl -b
Use this command to get basic system information:
$ uname -a

Alexander, thanks for the advice. I did update the bios to the latest
before I installed Debian on my HP 17-x116dx.

I've also have compiled a new kernel and installed
xserver-xorg-intel-video. Which has helped a bit.

I'm open to any ideas and suggestions.

Yes. Stretch works beautifully on Skylake systems, without needing
anything from stretch-backports.

You will probably want to install intel-microcode and
firmware-misc-nonfree (both from the non-free repository) before trying
to start X, but that's all there is to it.
