Hi.. I don't know what package you're looking for, am just writing
because it's not clear if you find yourself locked out completely. My
experience here is within Xfce4 desktop manager, but other managers
*might* be similar.

One thing is that *sometimes* the next key over is the on versus the
off of its nearby neighbor. That's not always true, though. I *a-sume*
since you're trying the same key to on/off that it maybe used to work
that way and now doesn't.

An alternative route that again is from within Xfce4: If someone ever
finds themselves locked out in this same way, try ALT+F1 to see if
that brings up your "Applications" menu. After that, arrow keys will
get you to the "Settings > Mouse and Touchpad" option.

That was actually learned on the fly out of desperation while clicking
everything in sight in a grocery store last year. I do it almost daily
now just so I never forget..

Good luck!

Cindy :)

Is the problem specific to KDE? For example, does the touchpad perform
as expected if you run another desktop environment such as Xfce or
LXDE?

If the problem is specific to KDE, I would start with plasma-desktop
and request the maintainer to reassign as he sees fit.

If the problem is not specific to KDE, then it could be due to the
driver. I see five packages which provide input drivers for touchpads.

 % apt-cache search touchpad driver
xserver-xorg-input-mtrack - Multitouch X input driver
xserver-xorg-input-multitouch - Multitouch X input driver
xserver-xorg-input-libinput - X.Org X server -- libinput input driver
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics - Synaptics TouchPad driver for X.Org server
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-dev - Synaptics TouchPad driver for X.Org
server (development headers)

If you are using any of these, try to reduce the problem to a single
package and then report the bug against it.

One more thing. To find out the touchpad driver you are currently
using look in the xorg logs. For example

grep -i touchpad /var/log/Xorg.0.log
