Hi, Brian:

finally I can get back to my printer problem... Thanks a lot for your help...
I'm trying to follow your instructions but... Well, I don't know, maybe I'm
missing something:

Up to here, no problem it seems.

Where's that file: message.txt, that you mention? I can't see it... Besides,
in /etc/cups/ppd there's no ML192x.ppd, there's ML191x.ppd...

Well, I gave that command 8 also, but... printer still doesn't work...

Am I missing something?

Thanks for any further help, really need it...

The instructions were recounting what I did. You were meant to alter
anything particular to your system. Step 3 is the major one if you use
x86_54.

Any serious problem with this command would mean there had been an utter
and complete breakdown in the CUPS printing system. Nobody would have
a hope of printing.

Now do 'lpinfo -v' with the printer plugged into the USB port. Look for
"direct usb://...." and alter the command in 7 to

 lpadmin -p ML191x -v usb://.... -E -m lsb/usr/custom/Samsung_ML-191x_Series.ppd

ML191x should now be shown in the printing dialogs of applications. Can
you print from an application or with

 lp -d ML191x /etc/nsswitch ?

I have the file. Its contents are in out.prn. You get to see it when you
successfully print out.prn.

ML192x.ppd is a typo.

The device might be /dev/usb/lp1. Plug the printer in and out and monitor
/dev/usb/.

      ^^

That's a 64, I guess (yes, from the peanut gallery. But it might be confusing
for a newbie, nevertheless)

I did everything you said, but no print! I don't know what to do... ML191x is
shown in the printing dialog of application, but it won't print... neither
using lp... I'm desperate... What can the problem be...? What should I do
now?

Thanks again...

Replace message.txt with /etc/nsswitch and obtain out.prn and log.
Compress out.prn and log with gzip and send the files to the list
attached to your next mail. Compare your files with the ones I sent
and comment on any differences (apart from size).

Now it seems to be all right! The right driver was rastertosamsungspl, but my
mistake was to do:

 # cp -vi i386/at_root/usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertosamsungspl /usr/lib/cups/filter

, whereas I had to, after unpacking UnifiedLinuxDriver_1.02.tar.gz:

 # cp -vi x86_64/at_root/usr/lib64/cups/filter/rastertosamsungspl /usr/lib/cups/filter

, because my new Lenovo desktop machine is 64-bit...

Thanks to Brian and to all who kindly helped...

Rodolfo

I saw an attachment. It said: emptyfile.bz2 and in it was an
"emptyfile". I do not know if that was what you intended or if the list
server did that?
