Problem with bup (until recently) is that the nature of its git-based
approach prohibits you from ever removing anything from the backup.

"Unti recently" because there now is a way to do data retention, but:
"bup only has experimental support for pruning old backups."

While bup is a nice program, borg is far more mature at this point.

Indeed, it's a relatively new feature, but it's been working fine in
my tests.

VMs come with a penalty in performance and functionality, but assuming
Vectorworks runs on the pure windows machine it may run in VM, it could be
though that it is missing some features ... you better check this first -
for example if there are people using this product in VM and what kind of
hardware they use, what kind of VM they use etc.

But we are talking about running Windows on the guest, so performance
and functionality penalties are a given anyway... :)

What I mean is that for some application one needs a dedicated hardware. I
don't know if Vectorworks is one such app (but 3d rendering ... might be an
issue IMO). Not everything works in VM especially such that interact with
the systems hardware or with external hardware.
