Greetings all;

It seems the mozilla.wheezy-backports link has been nuked. Can anyone
tell me where to get the latest FF for wheezy?

Thanks all.

Cheers, Gene Heskett

Go to http://mozilla.debian.net/ and use the drop-down lists to generate
the appropriate line in your APT sources.

I did indeed, got rid of the error because 47.0.1 is no longer available
for wheezy.

Did you try using http://mozilla.debian.net ?

There you can find Firefox ESR 45 for oldstable, which is the same
version of Firefox available in Jessie.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Ah! ESR, but not release. Sorry, Liam. I tried release.

It seems that "release" is the only version available for Wheezy and it
is available in the standard "security" repository for Wheezy, so it
wouldn't be necessary to add some other repository.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Sorry, when I said "release" I wanted to say "Firefox 45 ESR".

No problem. I didn't realise that 'release' was not available on wheezy.
That is slightly worrying as it suggests that a time will come when esr
is no longer available either on wheezy. In the meantime, Gene won't
have to add new respositories to get firefox-esr.

Well, Chrome is no longer available or supported on Wheezy either. Why
should Firefox be any different? I suspect that support will stop next
year or so when Long Term Support for Wheezy ends. The consequences of
"progress."

I should expect Firefox-esr to be maintained on Wheezy for the extended
life of Wheezy (coming as it does from the http://security.debian.org/
repository).

We Wheezy people no longer have any reason to keep mozilla.debian.net in
our sources.list (if I'm understanding this all correctly), as release
is no longer available. In fact, I believe it's making my little
gnome-updater thingamajig freak out.

All I ever got with apt-get is ERR 404 Not Found for mozilla.debian
repo. But I don't use Gnome or any desktop for that matter. Just a
window manager Openbox.

Wheezy extended support goes to 31 May 2018 (I checked). So, at least,
we'll get bug and security fixes 'til then. Now, as to major number
upgrades ... Firefox-Release 47.0.1 is the last for Wheezy even though
it's at 48 in Jessie. Haven't read anything about ESR45.

I removed mozilla.debian (was getting ERR 404 Not Found, anyway) after I
discovered Release (up to 47.0.1 anyway) and ESR are both in the
security.debian repo. However, ultimately there will come a time when
Wheezy is considered too old to continue to support. That should be
around 31 May 2018, I suspect.

Some where about 6 weeks back I wound up with both, and I don't seem to be able to make the -esr version work as default, it runs the 47.0.1 version anyway. But wheezy is stuck on the older version. And I don't care which is running, 5 minutes on the nbcnews.com site and I have to go find the screen htop is running on to kill it.

Javascript and flash are the most likely culprits. Consider disabling
them or using the noscript extension[1] to disable them
selectively.
