Hello,

Is there any way to see if a partition has been resized or shrunk? Any log, any command, anything??

Thanks in advance

AFAIK there is no direct way.

The only idea which comes into my mind is to examine the contents (e.g.
filesystem) metadata of the partition. If the size recorded in the
metadata does not match the size of the partition, it may have been
resized. Even if the contents has been resized too, some metadata may
not have been updated to reflect the new size. For instance, the number
of inodes in an ext2/3/4 filesystem is fixed at the creation and does
not change when the filesystem is resized. So, assuming the filesystem
was created with the default values you can compare the output of e2mkfs
in simulation mode and the output of tune2fs -l.

It would depend on a lot things(details that you have not included), but
agreed, I don't know of a command or direct way, unless you have a
recent backup or copy of the partition tables, you could compare the
current sizes to.
To start with : What makes you think it may have been resized ?
What version of Debian ?
As far as "logs" go, I don't know on Debian 8 Jessie,...
How do you think it got resized or shrunk ?

Please don't bottom post without trimming either. It's just as nasty as
top post (or even nastier when you need to scroll down pages of quoted
text to read the one-line answer).

Consider interleaved style and adequate trimming instead.

You and the other guy might consider starting a different topic
on this, "Don't top" post, "Don't bottom post, ...seems like no
matter what, somebody will complain,...but after all said and
done , What does this have to do with the topic started??:
  "Help on investigating partition-related changes"
And I apologize, again, I am sorry I am not as perfect as others.
And no, I am not trimming the text, all to often when people do that,
it makes it hard to make sense of the thread.
I apologize as well to the OP, and others, this has nothing to do with
partitioning, and the original topic. Twice now, when I saw there were
replies, to this topic,"Re: Help on investigating partition-related
changes"
I thought and was interested, to see if anything else had been added,
or the OP had more questions, I expected the replies to
have something to do with "Help on investigating partition-related
changes",but they don'..and I find that extremely annoying .
Let's please get back to the original topic.
thank you.

My attempts at trimming are usually lousy. :-( I was never any good at précis
at school either. :-(

The main problem with repeated top-posting is that it makes it impossible to
follow what is being said.

Thanks, I agree on the top posting, and to be honest,
that was a mistake, and I did say "Oops I am sorry,
I am not sure how it happened either.
Actually , when I open the reply editor, the "prompt"
is at the bottom, but any way I will try to be more careful
on that in the future.
On the "trimming", there could be times when it is needed
and useful, but I like it better when there is some "flow"
and I can see the previous replies and the original post as
well, I can see if a thread is mixed up with off topic comments,
it would be better to remove or "trim" them.
I learned years ago though, there all ways is somebody that
will complain or tell me this way or that way is wrong. It is impossible
to please every body.
Anyway, I will try to do my replies and posting better in the
future, but unfortunately I am not perfect like so many other people,
in fact in school, I hated it, even some teachers would call me
"stupid", no matter how hard I tried to be perfect like the rest
of them, please forgive me if I make some mistakes.
Excessively long signatures, are something I don't see any need
for, but I refrain from criticizing, and posting off topic comments.
It is sad though, when these "perfect people" don't realize they should
be thank full they are so "gifted", and can not realize that some people
are not as perfect, and can not help it, to them , so they call us
"stupid", and say it is a "unforgivable sin".
Actually I am thank full , I am that I am, and not like those
"perfect people", like the ones that made school so unpleasant,
I stopped going. Fortunately, I was able to learn ,many things,
own my own, in the public libraries, and later on the computer,
and that is what leads to why I like Debian so much, it is so user
friendly, even someone like me can use it and learn, from it.

Just one comment on trimming -- at least one very widely used email client
doesn't co-operate with that (Google Inbox on mobile -- definitely on the
iPhone version, possibly also on Android -- the desktop version is OK). It
will pull up the mail, let you reply, let you remove the OP and leave the
list in place if you remember to do so (which I am terrible at doing, but
that's on me) but if you try to remove any of the quoted text from the mail
you are replying to -- it simply won't let you do it. You can have all the
quoted text or none of it.

There's a school of thought that you shouldn't monkey with quoted text in
email replies because it becomes possible to isolate one clause, take it
out of context, and then forward to a bunch of people and completely
misrepresent what the mail being replied to was saying. That is typically
less of a problem in the context of a mailing list like this than in, say,
a corporate environment. I can only assume that it is with that in mind
that Inbox behaves the way it does (but it could be a fair-and-square bug,
because Inbox is inconsistent across platforms).

When I am on the road and replying to threads on this list, I do spare a
thought for the reader with the amount of quoted text I can't get rid of --
but I would hope that most decent mail clients roll up the quoted text and
let you unroll it if you want to read it -- Inbox certainly does.

Mark

Brainwashed by winders maybe? That would have to be the last server on
the planet before I'd try to wade thru its brokenness.

A non-FOSS partitioner that logs its activity is DFSee. It's the only
partitioner used here, so logging is routine, and how I keep track of what's
installed where on dozens of multiboot machines.
