Hi,

Given the redundancy in the replies i'd say this is fake protest
on fake spam which actually wants us to visit http://go.tua.one/tQkUb.

The spam replies to message <slrnnibi5q.3o0.curty@einstein.electron.org>
a legitimate mail to our list:
  https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2016/05/msg00010.html

Of course one can easily hijack a message id for sending spam with
debian-user as fake sender in the hope that people fight back.
But how probable is it that everybody who bothers to answer to the list
writes a single line of top posting ?

Or maybe it is just a troll who wants to take advantage of all the
semi-dysfunctional mail providers and clients which are disccused here.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

It's time to hijack this thread.
1st of May.
Let's all stand together and sing

  ~ Arise ~ ye ~ workers ~ from ~ your ~ slumber ~
  ~ Arise ~ ye ~ prisoners ~ of ~ want ~
  ~ For ~ reason ~ in ~ revolt ~ now ~ thunders, ~
  ~ and ~ at ~ last ~ ends ~ the ~ age ~ of ~ cant ~ ! ~

(Raising my fist against all those who have put may 1 on a sunday.
 The calendar stole our holiday.
Obviously a conspiracy originating from Pope Gregor XIII and his backers.)

Have a nice day :)

Yes, I tried all these.

> And gals.

Certainly. Gals actually go first without saying.

Seriously. This one was quite an interesting remark. You see, these days,
here on Canadian West Coast, most of people, especially young people,
use "guys" for both guys and gals. And it always seemed to me that gals
were promoting this change more actively than guys. I actually personally
do not like the change much and it took me some time to get used to it.

And now, when I'd used it just without much thinking any more... Bingo...
You got me. :-)

It looks like people at your place still use two distinct terms. :-)
Where are you?

Here the gender of the word "guys" is context-dependent. "Gals" is
pretty much archaic.

I was just needling you in a light-hearted manner.

As this is an international list, who knows what sensibilities might be
aroused by this or that term in reference to this or that gender and its
eventual mutual exclusivity.

As far as here goes, in mixed company, the masculine form takes
precedence (which may or may not have anything to do with anything).

Depending. "Guys" can indeed sometimes be used as the common gender, and it
is "man"kind. But I object to "Sirs"!!!

While I agree with the general principle, "guys" doesn't really work in mixed company (most women definitely do not want to be "one of the guys"). "People" probably works better.

But it might give one second thoughts about using the word "guy" at all if one knew the origin of the word: It comes from Guy Fawkes and originally referred to his effigy traditionally hanged on Guy Fawkes Day.

I was stationed in California in the late 50s and the usage was common there
way back then. I come from New York, and I was not used ot that, but I
think it
is more commonly used even in New York.
