I consider the second world war an extension of the first- there really was only one "hot" World War, from the 1910s to the 1940s, with two major outbreaks of violence as the old (European) imperial order collapsed and the new (American) imperial order arose.

The net result was that Europe was knocked off its throne and the US ascended to Europe's former position in those turbulent 40 years or so.

Adam Wilson,
I like you more and more. Thanks for taking your time. I got tired after
someone got rude, but I am glad I see someone who shares my opinion more or
less. I must admit that you put forward my thoughts in much better English
and order.
Yes there is a big crises with those two wars and the reason was to reshape
the world. In fact all starts somewhen in the 18th century, but the
escalation was obvious in the 20th.
However I'm sick of hearing here that the USA won somehow the WWII. They
moved into Europe in 1944. Of course they helped, but as nowdays (and this
was my point in the first mail) they supported both sides, knowing that
this way they get weaker. Just as today they support ISIS and pretend to
fight ISIS in the same time - hypocrisy pure.
At least the Soviets did not pretend to be democracy. They called it
dictatorship of the people. For the western world now it should
dictatorship of corporations.

regards

Yes. But they only intervene when necessary. We are not infringing on
the rights of anyone else to discuss what they wish.

However, I think we should take this off-list, deloptes.

Interesting subject.

Truth mostly offends people who have been brainwashed so it's probably
better off list.

Be well,
Charlie

I like you too- I am one of the few who will not dismiss your views are
"conspiracies" simply because they differ from those pushed as part of
Western mythology.

They won in the sense that they were on the winning side- but "won" as
in made the principal contribution simply isn't true. The USSR did that
through the sacrifice of 20 million Russians.

One thing I always found incredibly bemusing was the fact that although
the US practically created modern Islamic fundamentalism (destroying
pan-Arabism and secular leftist nationalist alternatives in the process
and creating a power vacuum for the ascendancy of ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and
the Taleban), the US now preaches "war on terror" and continues to be
the world's number one source of terror on a monstrous scale.

The problem with Western mythology as we see it in the media is that it
completely ignores informed historical understanding. Our modern
history begins with 9/11- "angry peasants attacked us because they hate
our freedom- now let's go slaughter some of these backwards peasants
back!"- and completely ignores what preceded it.

From Israel, the perpetrator of the Palestinian Holocaust, to Vietnam,
where a greater tonnage of ordinance was dropped than the North alone
than all the bombs dropped in the second world war put together, the US
is the real terrorist, the scourge of the modern age.

> At least the Soviets did not pretend to be democracy.

Actually, they did. The official propaganda line of the the USSR's TASS
was that the USSR was a democratic state (a contradiction in terms if
there ever was one- there has never been a democratic state, since the
state in itself must have a source of authority remote from the people
to be a state).

Both the USA and the USSR claimed to be democracies- and neither were.

Unfortunately, these people are what most of the population consist of.
There is a good reason for this- plays into the hands of capital, and
is actively perpetuated by capital via the state.

Hi all
and thank you for your interesting views. I agree we can take it off now.
I inspired this OT not expecting to see such reactions and views.

Let me say this at the end.
The main idea behind my original posting was to give an alternative view and
inspire some people to think about. Finally it is a public list and I do
not like to have a mainstream view put forward without been questioned.
Unfortunately as a not native speaker I can and will not be able to put
forward the facts (or rather my interpretation/understanding of the facts)
as Adam Willson did. Thank you Adam for doing so!

The facts are building blocks of truth. Unfortunately we interpret and can
not have same view of truth, even if we use same words.
It is amazing that there are people who understand the facts and people who
label them (the facts) as conspiracy, but still, from my own experience, if
we do not bring forward another view of the truth, no one will ever
question the validity of his/her own view. (Think about Nicolaus
Copernicus, Giordano Bruno and many others)

So this is all about. When you give more possible interpretations of the
facts, every one should at least start thinking and questioning his/her own
knowledge base.
And yes, this is a very basic and valid right to question and to interpret
facts. It is painful to find out that you were wrong, I must admit from my
own experience, but this makes you stronger.

It might be that I am wrong, it might be that I am right, but who are you to
judge me or my views - this is really sad, but I must admit I was also
blind but now I can see, so your words have been forgiven and forgotten for
the sake of a better future.

I feel sorry for all of you who do not do this exercise at least once a
week. And for all of you who do this exercise but end up in conspiracy :D

regards

There's a uk.politics.misc with contributors from many nations, and
even the occasional bit of Linux advocacy...

debian-user-politics@lists.debian.org- I like the sound of that. We
should get it started!

Complotist !

:)

Being a little bit serious there, are you *really* thinking that anyone (except the ones selling weapons to the different competitors) are winning anything in a war or after a war ?

What do you mean by this? Are you saying the US wasn't trying to win in Vietnam? In Iraq? In East Timor? In Afghanistan?

I will concede the Bay of Pigs though.

Why?

Who is this "God" of which you speak? I am afraid I am unfamiliar with her.

It may depend on which mail tool you use. In icedove/thunderbird I'd take a look
at Edit -> Preferences -> Attachments -> Incoming and check what is configured
there for http, https, ftp, file. In my case the Action is "Use x-www-browser".
And /etc/alternatives/x-www-browser is a link to /usr/bin/firefox .

Regards,
jvp.
