#165935 — New firefox isn't working

FromGene Heskett <gheskett@shentel.net>
Date2016-03-25 16:50 +0100
SubjectNew firefox isn't working
Message-ID<rgC9Q-3Nq-1@gated-at.bofh.it>
Greetings all;

The reason is that it treats every clicked on link in an email, into a
download of the site, which kills lots of time, and the subsequent
display of the site by showing the file://tmp/somehashnumber it has
downloaded in the address titlebar.

Is this my fault, or firefox? If my fault, how do I fix it?

Cheers, Gene Heskett

I can't help you at the moment, Gene, I have pretty much boycotted Firefox.
But I want you to know I enjoyed your web site and totally concur with your
opinions--may God save our nation!

If I were a Facebook user I would "like" your post.

Cheers from another old-timer!

this site. The two of them sully so much of the world. Let's keep this area
free of them.

Thanks Tom. Its hell for an old fart who can still remember his
grandfathers tears the night of Dec 7, 1941. Tears because he knew we
would declare war.

And I believe thats the last war we fully intended to win. Its all been
downhill since.

Cheers, Gene Heskett

Hmm, despite what you guys seem to think, WW2 started on 1 Sept 1939.

The start is debatable but arround 39 is correct. He is mixing up Perl
Harbor 1941 and above all USA was involved not to defeat Germany but to
stop USSR invading whole of Western Europe. Just the same game as today.
Nothing new!
In fact the war was carried out by USSR and for obvious facts they had to
share the victory with s.c. allies, but it never worked (Cold War). Just
the same game as today. Nothing new!

It seems obvious that when the war started depends on one's
situation. One could argue, for example, that it started in 1937 with
the Rape of Nanking.

Surely the start of the Sino-Japanese war would count for more than an incident within it?

Using regexps in a war is fighting dirty for sure.

If you count Japan's actions in China and Manchuria then the war started in
the early 'thirties. As for Germany, Hitler declared war on the USA on the
11 Dec 41, along with Italy, as Hitler, although not legally bound to
support Japan if they were the aggressor, believed that the USA would "beat
him to the punch" and declare war first.

I don't know where the idea that the USA entered the war to stop the USSR
invading Western Europe came from. In December 1941 Germany was deep inside
Russia, and it took the combined Allied might of Great Britain, the USA and
the USSR nearly four years to defeat them.

The USA certainly recognised the threat that the Soviets posed to Western
Europe, and the formation of NATO demonstrated both American support for
Europe and it's major role in it's defence.

If we are to be historically accurate, WWII was a continuation of WWI as
far as the West is concerned, and perhaps even of the Russo-Japanese war
for Asia.

Yes. Many argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point of
the war in Europe.

I would agree, with the battle of El Alamein coming at the same time, the
Wehrmacht were suddenly- and strategically- on the defensive on their major
Eastern Front, but also in the south, in their "soft underbelly"..

Of course, this all happened long before GNU/Linux and Debian...

I would say the main turning point on the Eastern Front actually came when Hitler's armies were at the gates of Moscow, but decided not to take it, and divert south towards Stalingrad and the Caucasus oilfields instead. This gave the Russians time to get their act together and counter-attack by the time winter came.

While the allies were running back and forth across North Africa, the USSR had almost-single-handedly pushed the Wehrmacht back, to the point where it was in full retreat by D-day.

This is also what I thought before consolidating my knowledge on the matter.
There is a simple fact. 6 June 1944 - D-Day - not earlier.
So IMO the west was always hypocritical as it is today. First they sucked
all the blood money from Europe and when found out that the Soviets would
conquer Europe, they marched in "defeating Hitlers Germany". And Germany is
still officially occupied by the USA. Another fact few of us are aware of.
I won't be surprised if USA claims victory over Daesh in Syria soon.
Really strange world, we live in.

ISTR that occupation was over with the re-unification of Germany in October 1990.

Yes for the Soviet Union but not for the USA ;-)

It's not conspiracy - just check the facts. There is nothing signed from USA
part.

Sorry - I was also surprised
