YouTube doesn't need Flash at all anymore. All you need is a reasonably
modern browser, for which Iceweasel does the trick.

That's right; I've disabled flash and am served HTML5 in Firefox 45
(release version from Wheezy backports) on YouTube. On Squeeze I didn't
have sound with my HTML5 video, which diminished the appeal of the
latter somewhat, but since my recent upgrade to Wheezy (cough, my wife's
asthmatic) the pulse audio applet provided by my new-fangled Gnome 3
(which DE I like BTW, glad I didn't listen to all the naysayers
who nearly inspired me to expunge Gnome 2 before upgrading) allowed me
to resolve the problem easy as pie.

Why the obsession with the mainsleaze news websites then? There are
plenty of ways to get news on the internet without having to watch BBC
video clips with Flash.

To the OP, Gene, I just got rid of flash plugin totally. So far no pain.

This is a mailing list. Communicaions to it are intended for *all* its
subscribers. Please confine private mails to the recipients address
only.

Nevertheless, we are very happy for you. :)

I'm happy as a clam that you are happy. :)
First, no diddly this is a mailing list.
Second, I wanted to publicly reply to Gene the OP, as opposed to Jorg,
that so far my needs have been met without the flash plugin for the
benefit of all. I'm a very altruistic guy. Ric

Ah, I see. Responding to to the points in Jorg's mail wasn't worth the
effort.

Gene and I go back at least 10 years, and I merely re-enforced
jorg's opinion, and the opinion of others who have replied in like
fashion. But, it's only been recently that I could live without a flash
enabled browser though.

My private life has been enviable. I was sued by Steve Jobs and his
minions, befriended Mad Dog and was interviewed in Esquire as one of
America's biggest software pirates in the 80's ...back in the Apple ]{
days. Heh, back then we MADE software free. Then I died for 20 minutes
last year, yet like Gene I'm still here. Life is good! <cackles> Ric

Exactly. I don't use Flash, but somehow the world hasn't collapsed
around me yet, and (*gasp*) I am still able to get my news. [1]

[1] Listening to BBC World Service on that oldfangled device (the
radio), reading The Real News, Democracy Now!, the Independent,
libcom.org, reddit.com/r/news, reddit.com/r/worldnews, reddit in
general, indymedia. It's not hard. There are so many sources for news.

Haha,
funny story guys. IMHO the problem is not with us. There are a lot of
people who don't care and will not stop using flash or whatever.
So we will not watching news, but flash will not die so fast.

Respect for your position though - I like you even more :D

Perhaps we need to introduce "likes" (jokingly)

regards

Hmm. "Likes" are pretty much useless without "Dislikes"- which would
basically net us a Reddit upvote/downvote system. Now we all know how
prone to abuse that is ;)

Far better to just let disagreements battle themselves out on the list
itself rather than through downvote numbers...
