I upgraded my testing system this morning and also lost the right button function on the desktop. However, I also lost the right click function on the kde menu button. I had to create a desktop icon to kmenuedit to edit the KDE menu. Left clicking the activities button in the upper left corner of the screen (default position ?) still brings up options for widgets and desktop settings so those functions are still available. *...Bob*

Hi Bob, still trying to find out, which package is involved. However, it looks as no one cares about it. Seems, as we are the only two people in the world, who are using Plasma, so no one is interested athough this is an important function. Is Plasma dead? Best Hans

It's been under discussion on the KDE ML.

Not so.

Not so.

Oh! So melodramatic!
This situation has come about as a result of partial migration to testing
of the necessary packages. It will sort itself out.

TBH, I've not found it to be a great hindrance. There is a solution, if
you're prepared to try (risk?) it, See;
https://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2016/07/msg00020.html
That message details the changes necessary to get Plasma working
correctly. I will say though, I've not done it. Further, you may have
different packages selected so if you *do* try the method suggested,
you're pretty much on your own, should it fail.

It may be necessary to log out and back in to ensure that the new
packages are used rather than the ones already loaded.

The buggy package is libplasma5 Version5.22 At the moment I try to downgrade all packages back to testing-versions (5.22), except for libplasma5. It costs some time. as I am doing it manually ( I am not exprienced with shell-scripts). Hans

Can't find that package anywhere in Debian. Do you, perhaps, mean
libkf5plasma5?

That leaves you with a version mis-match; Downgrading all but that one
package may leave you with some problems. I suggest keeping everything
at the same version. It probably doesn't matter which one.

The other ones are left by 5.23, which are the original versions in debian/testing. So I have an original debian/testing except the only package (libkf5plasma5 Version 5.23) from unstable. Adding this package into the debian/testing repo will fix the system. Hurray!!! Best regards Hans P.S. I suppose, you are involved, so please tell the other developers of my results. :) Would be nice!

Consider it done. Also, I've updated libkf5plasma5 here. I can confirm
your findings. Thanks for taking the time to pin down the culprit.

I installed just libkf5plasma5 (5.23) in my 4 test VMs running Debian testing and confirmed that it appears to have fixed the right click problem. The test VMs were upgraded this morning.
I just downloaded the libkf5plasma5 deb file and installed it with dpkg -i. This kept me from adding unstable to the sources.list file and possibly installing some unstable packages that would break other things. https://packages.debian.org can be very helpful.

Brad
Do you know what is holding up the libkf5... transition to 5.23 in testing? I
see there are some architectures that have build problems. Will that hold up
the amd64? About half of my libkf5 files are at 5.22 and the other half at 5.23.

AIUI, build issues can cause this delay, yes. For the full story follow
