Hi all, I'm on sid, and since a couple of weeks I'm experiencing random freezes; pretty bad, I have to hard reset the machine. I suspect it is the ugly wifi proprietary driver: === 03:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8192EE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter # aptitude show firmware-realtek Pacchetto: firmware-realtek Nuovo: sì Stato: installato Installato automaticamente: no Multi-Arch: foreign Versione: 20151018-2 Priorità: opzionale Sezione: non-free/kernel Responsabile: Debian Kernel Team <debian-kernel@lists.debian.org> Architettura: all Dimensione pacchetto installato: 1.021 k Consiglia: initramfs-tools Fornisce: firmware-realtek:i386 (= 20151018-2) === Any hint on how to debug, hopefully fix, this? All the best, and thanks. -- Paolo Cavallini - www.faunalia.eu QGIS & PostGIS courses: http://www.faunalia.eu/training.html

Hi all, really nobody has a hint? I can provide further info as needed. My problem is theat with a random crash there is little I can do to investigate, unless I have some suggestions. All the best, and thanks a lot. See https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/60574/determining-cause-of-linux-kernel-panic -- Alberto

Thanks Alberto for replying. See > https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/60574/determining-cause-of-linux-kernel-panic will try, not sure it will write something before freezing. Try installing Jessie as a dual boot and see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn't, then your Sid wifi stuff could be buggy. Or it could be something else in Sid. No way to tell at this point. If it does persist, then it could be hardware. Can you log in from another system using SSH and get any logs? If it worked before, then what changed? Pin down the package, then start testing version and preferably bisect (if it's the kernel or anything else that uses git) -- Cheers, Sven Arvidsson http://www.whiz.se PGP Key ID 6FAB5CD5
