It seems to have been a problem with sound. The videos didn't play at
all, but once I configured pulseaudio for multiple users (enabling sound
for the Flash Player user):
http://billauer.co.il/blog/2014/01/pa-multiple-users/ it just works.

You can use pam_supair: https://github.com/sfindeisen/pam_supair PAM
module for a quick su (without a password).

BTW does anybody know how to configure pulseaudio for multiple users
using UNIX sockets (instead of TCP sockets)?

Interesting. I had a working setup, sound worked fine, I upgraded and
found pulseaudio installed and sound had stopped working, when I purged
pulseaudio ... it just worked.

my 0.2c

purged?... How does it work, then?

My sound has just stopped working, I don't know why. Here's what I have:

# ps -AFH | grep -i pulse
stf 1014 1 0 93560 10208 0 10:01 ? 00:00:02
/usr/bin/pulseaudio --start
stf 1098 1 0 1082 108 1 10:01 ? 00:00:00
/bin/sh /usr/bin/start-pulseaudio-x11
root 1420 1412 0 3852 2252 0 10:10 pts/2 00:00:00
  grep -i pulse

Neither stf nor other users have the sound.

Yesterday everything was fine.

My sound has stopped working. A couple of days ago everything was OK.
Here is my pulseaudio log. Does it look normal? Or is my soundcard broken?

Or maybe the sound is just muted, how to unmute it?

I just killed pulseaudio, and have sound on another user (not the one
running the X session). The user logged in to X has still no sound.

This is nuts.

Sometimes it works, but usually it doesn't. I also sometimes have sound
in my headphones, but not in my laptop's built-in speakers. What is
going on here?

Some laptops turn the sound down automatically when headphones/earphones are
plugged in and fail to turn it back up when they are unplugged. So the sound
is working, but is so quiet it can't be heard. You could Google on your
laptop and see whether that might be the case, and if so what to do about it.
