Just the shelves are printed, you can get the case from amazon as a stamped sheet metal thing for just few bucks. It will look like h--- because the 7 port all usb_3 hub is longer that it is. A 6" 24 volt fan idling along on the bpi's 5 volts will cool it quietly. I'll probably tie the hub to it with a zip tie or 2. Function is what counts. Pretty is for describing girls. > David > Cheers, Gene Heskett, CET. -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Have you tried it when some stepper motor drivers are connected using

I do not remember if I explicitly chose some installer menu to save
logs, but I have /var/log/installer/ and in particular
/var/log/installer/hardware-summary
So Gene's install logs might shed some light on what actually happened.
I am interested in some equivalent of
lsusb -vt
ls /dev/tty*
executed from installer console or immediately after first reboot. I
suspect Gene may forget to disconnect some USB hub plugged into other
side of the box.

That printer also has a cat5 input and an ipv4 address, which is also hooked up but usb is hugely, obviously much faster.. Part of the slow is that the last time I tcpdumped it, the driver sent a bogus checksum the first 6 times before it sent a good checksum. May have been fixed since as the driver has been refreshed several times to keep up with cups changes since. Its getting old and its huge, can use tabloid sized paper even, does stunning work on good color paper. > ls /dev/tty* ditto > executed from installer console or immediately after first reboot. I > suspect Gene may forget to disconnect some USB hub plugged into other > side of the box. Nothing is plugged into front, don't think the only front port usb is even in the machine as it was the original speed stuff., so all usb i/o is out of the rear and at least usb2. No, even the floppy slot is just a full height hole in the front panel. The side isn't on the machine, the i5 heat sink and fan are too tall, side won't fit. There is also, because I have an old Sony digital Handi-Cam, a semi hi-def hi8 camera, a firewire card, bought before apple killed it with their exorbitant license demand. Replacements if it should fail are made out of pure unobtainium today. I use kino to edit its output when I shoot a wedding etc. Could that be miss-interpreted as a serial device? The hypothesis you agreed with (several times) is that the *installer*
enables assistive technologies when it sees ftdi or a similar device. So
the subject of my interest is state of hardware namely during install,
not today. I suspect you forgot to disconnect some cable that time.
>> ls /dev/tty*

Do you see anything related to ttyUSB or ftdi in /var/log/installer/syslog?
Was screen reader active during install or it revealed itself later?

The cloud scares me, too public. Some of what I have done is patentable & I'd rather not share it. Like an NTSC time code format linked to what is now NTP. Not patentable, but my fingerprints have been to the bottom of the mohole, 37,000 ft deep in the pacific, I was the bench tech that built the tv cameras on the Trieste that went down there in 1960. Its been a long winding road to get this far, and one hell of a ride.
