#261481 — pppoe ipv6 PD

Frombasti <mailinglist@unix-solution.de>
Date2023-09-04 22:00 +0200
Subjectpppoe ipv6 PD
Message-ID<HanTP-6Iik-1@gated-at.bofh.it>
Hello,

I have switch my network config from ifup to systemd-networkd.

IPv4 is working well but IPv6 is broken now.

In the past I used dhcpcd to delegate the ipv6 prefix to my LAN
interface. It seems not working with systemd.

On my PPP interface I get an IPv4 and a IPv6 Address.

On my LAN interface I have to to set:

[Network]
IPv6SendRA=yes
DHCPv6PrefixDelegation=yes

When this is the LAN interface is up but

root@s920:~# networkctl
IDX LINK     TYPE     OPERATIONAL SETUP
   1 lo       loopback carrier     unmanaged
   2 enp1s0f0 ether    routable    configuring
...
   4 enp1s0f1 ether    routable    configured
...
  81 ppp0     ppp      routable    unmanaged

and I get no IPv6 Address here.

enp1s0f0 is LAN
enp1s0f1 connect to modem

dhcpcd and radvd are disabled, I think systemd should to that with the
config above?

LAN interface without IPv6SendRA and DHCPv6PrefixDelegation in config

root@s920:~# networkctl
IDX LINK     TYPE     OPERATIONAL SETUP
   1 lo       loopback carrier     unmanaged
   2 enp1s0f0 ether    routable    configured
...

Can someone give me I tip how it should work?

That should be enough but I don't really know how pppoe works, I've only
used IPv6 with tunneling, 6rd and 6in4 with the late route48.org.

There seems to be quite a lot of discussion in systemd issue #481 here:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/481, maybe that's of some help?

With 6rd I have also specified these two on the LAN side but I don't know if
they're actually needed. Also I have IPForward=yes on the WAN interface.

[Network]
IPv6AcceptRA=no

[DHCPPrefixDelegation]
UplinkInterface=enp1s0

With PPP IPv6CP (RFC 2472 is being used.
It negotiates a 64 bit interface identifier to create the link-local
address.
The rest is being done with router advertisement and optionally with
DHCPv6.

I get it working.
Some options are renamed in different systemd versions. I use 252.
FYI.

root@s920:/etc/systemd/network# cat 60-ppp.network
[Match]
Type=ppp

[Network]
IPv6AcceptRA=yes
DHCP=ipv6

root@s920:/etc/systemd/network# cat enp1s0f0.network
[Match]
Name=enp1s0f0

[Network]
IPv6SendRA=yes
IPv6AcceptRA=no
DHCPPrefixDelegation=yes

[IPv6SendRA]
EmitDNS=no
EmitDomains=no

enp1s0f0 is my LAN interface and I don't want to use the DNS Server of
my ISP.

What did you change to make it work though?

My changes where attached in my last mail. Did you seen it?
Have a look at the mailing archive:

No, you posted only your new versions so I can't know what you
actually changed. You posted originally that you have:

[Network]
IPv6SendRA=yes
DHCPv6PrefixDelegation=yes

On the LAN side. And now you have:

[Match]
Name=enp1s0f0

[Network]
IPv6SendRA=yes
IPv6AcceptRA=no
DHCPPrefixDelegation=yes

[IPv6SendRA]
EmitDNS=no
EmitDomains=no

So was it IPv6AcceptRA=no that fixed it? Or something else?

I only have post the relevant options, so you need all of them,
depending on you environment. I don't know if you want to use the DNS
Server of your ISP.

For more info's about the options see 'man systemd.network'

You also need to accept RA on the ppp interface and start a dhcpv6
client there, if your ISP distribute IPv6 via dhcp.
