What is the error message?

Are you sure the DVD is broken or is it maybe a stupid DRM?

I've been thinking DRM, too, the last couple times this came up. Just
tried a search with an odd option coming back in answer. Some users
have success opening a seemingly broken DVD in VLC and THEN e.g.dd
copying while the DVD is still busy with VLC. They're scratching their
heads wondering why it works. All they can figure out is that it just
does.. sometimes.

https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/32564/why-cant-i-copy-my-dvd-with-dd

Handbrake was high up in the search engine results for my "will drm
block dd from copying dvd" query. I've seen Handbrake mentioned here a
couple times already, but there it is again.

My reading: attempt to write some data resulted in some error message.

How big is the iso file? If it is larger than 4.7GB then it will be too
large to write to disk.

Have you tried K3B? K3B can make iso images and burn iso images to disk. It
can also rip dvd's.

I lost track: does the OP have a crippled file system
like that?

Perhaps. But perhaps not. It is possible we misunderstand.

Can you please

 - show us the file name you are trying to copy the ISO to?
   Please, with the full path.
 - show us which file systems you have mounted?
In a console, enter "mount" (without the quotes)
 - show us how much space is left in your file system
   In a console, enter "df"

Then, perhaps, we may understand what is happening.

Cheers

STFW dvdisaster(1) looks like it might be able to recover all or part of
the files on a corrupt data DVD:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvdisaster

dvdisaster(1) and documentation are available as Debian packages:

2023-11-24 16:37:25 dpchrist@taz ~
$ apt-cache search dvdisaster
dvdisaster - data loss/scratch/aging protection for CD/DVD media
dvdisaster-doc - data loss/scratch/aging protection for CD/DVD media
(documentation)

There are videos on YouTube about dvdiaster(1):

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=dvdisaster

I suggest that you use your favorite package management tool to install
both packages and try using dvdisaster(1) to recover the files on your DVD.

Hellow Sophie!

First you check that your DVD is OK.

Then copy it ...
