#247408 — Live usb version of testing

Hi,
My machine keeps crashing on Bookworm, and most of the drivers aren't
working. I wanted to try a live usb to see if it's just my system's rather
crufty history rather than bookworm. How would I get one of these?

Thanks
James

Hi,

I would suggest having a look at https://github.com/ventoy

I hope it helps.

I'd expect "bookworm" in
  https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-live-builds/amd64/iso-hybrid/
  https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-live-builds/i386/iso-hybrid/
but the file dates 2021-08-09 look like from before the "bullseye" release.

So you will probably have to ask at debian-live@lists.debian.org whether
there are newer ISOs somewhere.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The current Live ISOs (bullseye) for amd64 and i386 are at:
  https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current-live/amd64/iso-hybrid/
  https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current-live/i386/iso-hybrid/
(Note that "standard" means "no GUI at all".)

Older versions are at
  https://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/archive/

Have a nice day :)

Thomas

Hi James,

Sadly, there isn't a live CD version of Bookworm: there hasn't been for a few
months. The number of people working on Debian live images is very small.

I'm also a member of the Debian images team - who master CDs and do the release testing - and we test the live images at point release time but have no
input in producing them master copies.

The images team do maintain the images for standard (non-live) Debian install
media. What sorts of problems are you experiencing with Bookworm - is it
just missing firmware / drivers?

[It's generally expected that if you run testing, then you can live with a
lower degree of security support and are capable of sorting most problems:
testing is a moving target - if it breaks, you occasionally get to keep both
pieces].

Hope this helps - sorry to not have better news at this point.

With every good wish, as ever,

Andy Cater
