FromByung-Hee HWANG <soyeomul@doraji.xyz>

SubjectOT EU-based Cloud Service
Message-ID<E2fnj-2w5D-21@gated-at.bofh.it>
Hellow Debian!

I'm Linux fan from South Korea. Very much i like Linux / OpenSource
stuff. And for the first time in my life, i have to plan to try install
mail server for outbond.

For setup outbond server, i'll use Postfix and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. That is
mandotary. And i'm looking for good place. Particular, Amazon-EC2-like
Service. Possibly i want to EU-based Cloud service. There is my personal
reason for EU-based thing.

Very long time i did googling for searching EU-based Cloud Service. But
i did fail. So i ask here Debian users. Because here Debian users looks
like to know good place, EU-based Cloud.

Actually i'm willing to pay about 5€ for the my plan.

Please recommand it, and any comments welcome ^^^

Sincerely, Linux fan Byung-Hee from South Korea

Um - you might be thinking of Nürburg? Home of the Nürburgring? :-)

Nuremburg has other associations in my mind, but I'm sure it's a fine
place for a data centre.

Cheers,

Both Linode (https://www.linode.com) and Digital Ocean
(https://www.digitalocean.com) have EU datacenters.

There's also https://serverius.net/
I don't have first hand knowledge of them, but disroot.org seems happy

YSK, Hertzner, Linode and Digital Ocean all have had and may continue to
have issues with sending emails from their networks. Discussion of
that is not on-point for this list, but if want to learn more checkout
the MailOP list at:

So while outbond mail server testing, i'll keep Google Workspace for

Just a note on (American) English usage -- I think you are talking about
sending mail, and we (I think) would more commonly use the word outbound to
describe that (at least the direction of mail).

Have a good day!

In France, the three major host providers are:

https://www.scaleway.com/
https://www.gandi.net/
https://www.ovhcloud.com/

I have a very cheap dedicated server at OVH, it serves its purpose.

They actually lost some of my shit in the Strasbourg fire (via a
governmental agency), so I'm skeptical; it seemed they kept the backup
in the same building as the original. Thus the whole kit and caboodle
went up in smoke (for any arbitrary definition of caboodle). Or maybe
there was no backup. Or maybe backup not included or something. It all
appeared inconceivable to me *niveau ineptie totale*, but there you go.

Thanks for this, I had not heard of this fire. OVH had already had a major
power disruption in
that data center in 2017. No, they had no offsite sitewide backup this
time, major customers
would have had their own. There was no fire suppression system, but I have
never
worked in a datacenter without one. The airflow was so poor that the entire
datacenter
with 9 employees on duty was engulfed in flames in about 15 minutes.
Looking at the photos, it was just stacked shipping containers.

FWIW, I use Scaleway's S3-compatible Object Storage (via rclone, from
the U.S.) to store borg backups online, and it works very well. The
first 75GB of storage (and transfer) are currently free:

https://www.scaleway.com/en/object-storage/
