Hi all, I have a problem with the opening of Scribus, it is not specific towards Scribus since I also have problems using other graphic viewers such as Gaussian view. Something related to my graphic rendering but I don't know how to check, It would be great to get your advice about which files to look up for errors or mistakes. Thanks very much for your help, lina

Which Debian? (inxi -S) Which DE or WM? (inxi -Sa or -Sxx) What graphics hardware? (inxi -Ga or -Gxx) sudo echo B_ALLOW_UPDATE=true >> /etc/inxi.conf # allow to upgrade to a recent, less broken inxi version than whatever antique version your Debian provides inxi -U # update inxi inxi -GSayz # get all the info to post here nicely formatted Start by looking at your Xorg.0.log, found either in /var/log/ or in ~/.local/share/xorg/. ~/.xsession-errors might have clues, as might the journal (man journalctl) -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. # lspci | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK208B [GeForce GT 730] (rev a1) I don't know which package I should install to match this graphic card. You probably use at this moment the free nouveau driver, which unfortunately does not support nVidia cards very well in most cases (inferior acceleration, no power management, lacking features...) This card should be well supported by the proprietary, binary-only driver from nVidia, which is available for easy installation in the Debian non-free package "nvidia-driver". You might have to enable the "non-free" section in your sources.list first. > > I have a problem with the opening of Scribus, it is not specific > towards > > Scribus since I also have problems using other graphic viewers such as > > Gaussian view. > > > Something related to my graphic rendering but I don't know how to > check, Please elaborate on that. What is the problem? Regards, Christian

What you might need (or desire) to do is uninstall a package (xserver-xorg-video-nouveau). Most likely, all FOSS drivers applicable to that GPU were installed by default. Without (previously requested) information, we can only speculate. Please post URL resulting from: cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | pastebinit if /var/log/Xorg.0.log exists, and if not, but ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log does, then: cat ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log | pastebinit For some background, see this primer: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/541438-AMD-Intel-amp-NVidia-X-graphics-driver-primer It explains nouveau has multiple driver meanings, and what your FOSS driver options are. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science.
