It seems that the maintainer of getmail is getting unnecessary grief because users of getmail6 are requesting of him solutions for problems that are not of his making. It seems normal that when a project is forked that it is called something different to the name of the existing code. That would appear to be the sensible solution, to call getmail6 something else.
