Picked this printer up mainly for the wife and her work, but I'd also love
to use it without having to resort to a Windows VM.  I extracted the PPD
for both Windows and Mac to poke at it, but it references a few programs
that aren't supported on Linux.

I've looked at Turbo Print - https://turboprint.info/ - and I certainly
don't mind paying for a driver if it fills the need I have.  I know the
Pro-300 is pretty new, so I'm wondering if anyone on the list has either:

* Used the Turbo Print driver for the Canon imageprograf Pro-1000 with the
Pro-300.
* Or used a generic Postcript Level 3, CUPS, or similar driver for it

I may end up contacting the Turbo Print folks to see if they're working on
a pro-300 driver, but I figured it couldn't hurt to hit up this list as
well. :)

It looks like this printer supports Ethernet\WiFi connection, so there 
is a possibility you can print directly [1] to it, using IPP or another 
protocol.

I do some research before buying any product and never failed. It may cost a
bit more, but at the end it works without an issue. The last printer I
bought was HP 402dn for a little under 200€. The last HP 5L worked for
almost 20y. I expect this one to work at least 10

obviously linux support is a myth for that - or can one use the Mac OS X

I just take a short cut and never buy Canon.
Their support for Linux has always been less than zero.
So, they receive the same.

Hmm, back in the day, their ink cartridges (e.g., for the BC-33e printhead for 
the BJC-3000) were the absolute easiest to refill, with no issues related to, 
hmm, can't think of the right name -- electronic "tags" in the cartridge that 
would do things like set an expiration date and were hard to reset (if 
possible at all) -- no such tags in the BC-33e ink cartridges.

Probably, but I found a cups driver that works fine (except for checking ink 
levels).  Can't immediately find the driver name.
