#230792 — Lenovo Tiny PCs on sale, today is last day

There are some Lenovo tiny PCs on sale at good prices -- I ordered a new one
for almost the same price ($2 difference) as the best price I found for the
same model refurbished. Plus, I could do a little customization (you can do
more -- I basically deleted the mouse and keyboard, added the toolless chassis
and a (built-in / punchout) VGA port (as opposed to a VGA dongle, which is
another option).

The models that are on sale include:

M75Q Tiny (base price about $342)
M75Q Tiny Gen 2 (base price $401)
M90 something
one other -- don't have the number at hand

Oh, actually, there are a lot more, including full size desktops, laptops, all
in ones, ....

Start at
https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/d/deals/desktops?sort=sortBy&currentResultsLayoutType=grid&visibleDatas=facet_Brand%3ABrand%3AThinkCentre

I also got a $10 discount for signing up to their mailling list (I may regret
that :-(

Aside: I first ordered the M75Q Tiny because I didn't see the M75Q Tiny Gen 2,
but I changed my order this morning.

If you are interested, act fast, the sale ends today.

Oh, I should point out that their prices for things like a memory or disk
upgrade are not the best -- I plan to upgrade memory buying from another
source. (And I have some SSD hard drives that I will consider replacing the
base HDD (500GB).)

I guess I should add one more thing -- if you customize (as I did) deliveries
could be way out there -- in one place it says "more than 5 weeks", in another
it says June 2, 2021 (at least that is this year). I'm assuming delivery is
much better / faster if you don't customize.

The delivery doesn't bother me, it will give me time to do lots of other
things I need to do.

Unfortunately, this sale is not available for my region\country.

These are indeed, fascinating little machines, you could build a
personal desktop cluster using them as individual nodes,
or use them to test various software configurations and network setups. :)
I wonder how else people use them and how they do in terms of performance.

Well, someday I can let you know, but I'm sure it will meet my needs -- my
biggest need was to have something small that I could place where my other two
(tower) desktop computers sit.

Ryzen 3 with 4 cores, 8 threads, something like 3200 to 3600 GHz. capability
to support 64 GB of memory (nobody should ever need more than 64 GB ;-), VGA,
hard wired Ethernet. Of course, each model is available with differfent
features, so not all are like the one I ordered.

It is not advertisement, because rhkramer does not benefit from it.
He's just saying look there is a good cheep HW for sale.

if it is one time ... I'd (how do you say?) shut one eye maybe
I was intrigued - saved me a lot of time. I'm looking from time to time for
next replacement of the desktop - I need 1 or 2 serial ports. I never knew
ThinkPad has industrial series with 2 Com ports and 2 Network ports.
I couldn't decide to buy, but at least learned something new ... well
admitted not related to Debian :) but useful

The Think* series has traditionally been good quality and well supported
in Linux. More recently Lenovo has been actively cooperating with the
Linux community (including Debian) to improve the user experience on
*new* systems.

Because of that I interpreted it as "look, that hardware that we know
Debian runs well on is now on sale" ;)

Kind regards,
Andrei

Not an unreasonable view. However, the style and frequency of the posts
raised a question in at least one user's mind :).

Good question.

> It is not advertisement, because rhkramer does not benefit from it.

It's definitely borderline. It didn't bother me (I happen to like
those kinds of little critters, tho I went with a Librem mini instead,
to put my money where my mouth is), but I did find it out of place.

> He's just saying look there is a good cheep HW for sale.

In any case, it needed an `[OFFTOPIC]` marker in the Subject line.
