Hello. I was trying to locate the original 10.0 iso files. Have they been
removed from the iso archive? Does anyone know why?

https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/archive/ should probably be the first port
of call

10.0.0 lists the jigdo files: use jigdo to download the .iso files, maybe?

cdimage.debian.org doesn't have unlimited space and a full set of all
the images would be prohibitive in terms of disk. _Most_ people don't need
a specific point version at any given time.

All the very best, as ever,

Andy C

All you wrote is correct. However that was the case for many-many years:
the iso files were there. The jigdo approach does not work either, the
files themselves are missing and the jigdo binary reports it.As for the
"most people would not need them anyway" stance, i agree but that was true
all the previous years as well, not to mention that all this almost defeats
the purpose of an iso archive all together.

For education, testing, archiving purposes, the iso file should be there -
that is my opinion of course. What "scared" me and made me think that i
should ask a bit, is the face that i saw no announcement about it - like an
accident has taken place, or worse.

Hi,

If you mean the error message after the first input to jigdo-lite

  $ jigdo-lite
  ...
  To resume a half-finished download, enter name of .jigdo file.
  To start a new download, enter URL of .jigdo file.
  ...
  jigdo [...]: https://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/archive/10.0.0/amd64/jigdo-cd/debian-10.0.0-amd64-netinst.jigdo
  File `https://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/archive/10.0.0/amd64/jigdo-cd/debian-10.0.0-amd64-netinst.jigdo' does not exist!

then you probably have an old jigdo-lite which cannot cope with https
URLs.

Workaround is to download .jigdo and .template file by other means:

  $ wget https://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/archive/10.0.0/amd64/jigdo-cd/debian-10.0.0-amd64-netinst.jigdo
  ...

  $ wget https://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/archive/10.0.0/amd64/jigdo-cd/debian-10.0.0-amd64-netinst.template
  ...

and to go the path of "half-finished download":

  $ jigdo-lite
  ...
  jigdo [...]: debian-10.0.0-amd64-netinst.jigdo
  ...
  Files to scan:
  ...
  Debian mirror [...]: http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/
  ...
  ... lots of package download messages ...
  ...
  Finished!
  The fact that you got this far is a strong indication that `debian-10.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso'
  ...
  OK: Checksums match, image is good!
  $

(One should check by the SHA256 in
  https://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/archive/10.0.0/amd64/jigdo-cd/SHA256SUMS
whether the image is indeed good.)

> As for the "most
> people would not need them anyway" stance,

I guess that the visual pain of watching a multi-GB Jigdo download shall
keep people from testing their internet bandwidth by wgetting a ready-made
25 GB Blu-ray ISO image.

Have a nice day :)

Was that so?

<https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/archive/> currently says:
| By default, for each release here we keep all the images in jigdo
| format to save on space and download times. We also often keep the
| ISO images for the last release of each series.

That is true; the ISO images for 9.13.0, the last release of the 9.x
series, are present.

The text above is unchanged since at least 2011 (checked via Wayback
Machine), so I wonder if the procedure really has changed.

I was not aware of the text that you mention, however i assure you that the
iso files were there, for (at least) the past five years. I know because
(in earlier distro researching (!) eras) i was downloading from the related
locations at least once a month, or i was visiting that location for
finding out the sha256sum files to re-check stored isos prior to re-using
them. I have a downloaded 10.0.net-install version from November 2020, from
the debian iso archive (no jigdo, just plain wget), along with the
sha256sum file. So the change is very real and very recent, make no mistake.
