Personally, I always use direct downloads for browsers.

I've also started to use apulse with Firefox and other browsers with alsa sound only.

	/usr/bin/apulse /home/andrewm/firefox/firefox

All the above single line chagnes is to adjust the LD_LIBRARY_PATH and give you sound "as if" you had pulseaudio installed.
