This is not true. From old Xorg logs:

https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/DebianPackages.html recommends
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau.

However, it seems that a "modesetting" module is loaded by default:

It seems that I haven't kept any Xorg log for the concerned machine.
