Hi all,

Sorry if this is a newbie-type question... I use Icedove on Jessie, and immediately after I received this email I ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade, but no packages were updated.

Thoughts? Thanks very much.

Package : icedove
CVE ID : CVE-2016-1979 CVE-2016-2805 CVE-2016-2807

Multiple security issues have been found in Icedove, Debian's version of
the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client: Multiple memory safety errors may
lead to the execution of arbitrary code or denial of service.

For the stable distribution (jessie), these problems have been fixed in
version 38.8.0-1~deb8u1.

For the unstable distribution (sid), these problems will be fixed soon.

We recommend that you upgrade your icedove packages.

please learn how to quote, so all can understand what is the question
and what is the answer. Also break your line response to 75 character

if you check the PTS[1] you can find that:

[2016-05-13] Accepted 38.8.0-1~deb7u1 in oldstable-security (medium)

so the package is available from 13 may 2016 and probably you have
already upgrade to this icedove's version.

To ckeck
$ grep icedove /var/log/dpkg.log

Note: if you don't find nothing try dpkg.log.1 file

if there is nothing then look at your sources.list

$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list

you must have a lines as the followings

deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib non-free

or

deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free

if not, then you must add one and execute:

# apt-get update
# apt-get -u upgrade

Ciao
Davide

Or just run "apt-cache policy icedove", which will show you what version
you have installed and what versions are available.

You should see a couple of lines that look like:
     38.8.0-1~deb8u1
        500 http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates/main amd64 Packages

If not, then check your sources.list as Davide suggested.

Yes, thanks to both of you. Evidently I had already upgraded the
package without realizing it; I now have the latest version.

I also apologize for not quoting and formatting my original message
properly -- I had done a quick-and-dirty reply on my iphone (and not my
Debian laptop, because I didn't want to use icedove at that point yet!)
and apparently the iphone does not have good email etiquette for these
mailing lists :)

Thank you again.
-Harris
