Hey hows is going! I have a lenovo n22 chromebook that ive tried everything to get out of a bootloop and it hasnt worked so I decided to install debian on it but i was wondering which version of debian would be the best? I know it has a 64 bit processor but with it being an old laptop im not sure if newer versions of debian would make it struggle. Thank you so much!

The 'Project' mailing list is intended only for project-related project-wise discussions. For Debian users support, use <debian-user@lists.debian.org>. You can also try the IRC channel #debian on irc.debian.org (irc.oftc.net). Below, are pages with useful information about trying to get help using IRC or email: - https://wiki.debian.org/GettingHelpOnIrc - https://wiki.debian.org/DebianIRCChannelGuidelines - https://www.debian.org/support That been said, let me try to give some light to your request for help: I don't know any specifics for this Lenovo N22 Chromebook of yours. However, I have a Dell Latitude from 2007, much before Chromebooks were created, which I use on a daily basis with the latest version of Debian without significant performance issues. It was upgraded to have 4 GB of RAM, what I consider to be the minimal for these days if you intend to have a Desktop Environment (DE) and surf the web with a browser like Firefox. Also, the spinning disc (hard disk) was replaced by an SSD. The DE I use is Xfce, which is a light-weight DE. Good luck with your issue! ;-) Cheers ----------------------------------- ⢀⣴⠾⠻⢶⣦⠀ Felipe Maia ⢿⡄⠘⠷⠚⠋⠀ Debian Contributor ⠈⠳⣄

The good news about Debian and Linux operating systems in general is that the newer versions don't tend to come with significantly increased hardware demands. As long as your system is 64-bit, I would install the latest stable version of Debian. It's possible that some of the heavier-weight desktop environments might be a bit slow (although I doubt even that), but even if so, I would still recommend the latest Debian release with a different desktop environment. For future reference, this sort of question is probably better suited for the debian-user mailing list. There are more people there who can help with user questions and tips. I hope Debian works for you! -- Russ Allbery (rra@debian.org) <https://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/>
