Bug#1026861: Broken Official Archives (including global mirrors)

The .jigdo and .template files for DVD ISOs of Debian GNU/Linux 3.1r8 
(Sarge, final version) no longer function to generate the following 
ISOs:
- DVD ISO 1 for i386 arch;
- DVD ISO 1 for IA64 arch;
- DVD ISO 1 for PowerPC arch;
- DVD ISO 2 for PowerPC arch;

As both the official BitTorrent files for these (.torrent), as well as 
direct .ISO links, are no longer provided for older versions, the only 
method officially available to obtain this OS is via the Jigsaw Download 
(jigdo) tool called jigdo-lite, according to Debian GNU/Linux official 
guides.

The "good news" is that it seems to be only between 1 or 2 files that 
are missing for each of those images to be completed, suggesting the 
error was likely accidental, and a fix is hopefully doable. Below is the 
output I get for the aforementioned DVD ISO 2 for PowerPC arch, as an 
example:

files to continue

Aaargh - 2 files could not be downloaded. This should not
happen! Depending on the problem, it may help to retry downloading
the missing files.
Also, you could try changing to another Debian or Non-US server,
in case the one you used is out of sync.

However, if all the files downloaded without errors and you
still get this message, it means that the files changed on the
server, so the image cannot be generated.
As a last resort, you could try to complete the CD image download
by fetching the remaining data with rsync.


Switching to use different servers from US, Japan and beyond yielded the 
same results, even when deleting the partial download data and 
restarting the download process.

I suspect further Jigdo downloads might be broken beyond those I 
highlight in this e-mail, in particular those for exotic architectures 
(m68k etc.) and those of even older Debian GNU/Linux versions, however 
that much has yet to be confirmed.

I installed jigdo-lite via the package manager "Fink" under macOS 
10.14.6 Mojave on an AMD64 (x86_64) machine, through which I 
successfully downloaded and assembled multiple Debian GNU/Linux ISO 
images, the sole exceptions being the ones mentioned above.

Although it would not fix the bug per se, jigdo-lite also suggests to 
use "rsync" as a "last resort", however I have no idea how rsync could 
assist with this, nor how it could be used to solve this problem, if at 
all.

Any support, feedback and/or bugfix to solve this problem would be 
greatly appreciated.
