Hi!

After upgrading an i386 box (Soekris net5501) running testing (buster),
I found out that the newly migrated Linux kernel fails to boot.

Looking at the boot through the serial console reveals the attached
output, in which I spotted the following line:

  [    5.363599] kernel BUG at arch/x86/mm/pat.c:549!

The previous kernel image (4.18.20-2) works with no issues.
I have temporarily altered GRUB_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub, in order to
force the box to automatically boot that kernel version.

I hope this bug may be fixed soon.

The attached patch should fix the issue, and is pending for the
upcoming 4.19.13 stable version.

If you have a chance to verify this, with
https://kernel-team.pages.debian.net/kernel-handbook/ch-common-tasks.html#s4.2.2
that would be great.

Unfortunately I have very limited Internet bandwidth in these days and
the only i386 box available (the Soekris net5501 itself) has too limited
hardware resources to conveniently rebuild a patched Linux kernel...

I am afraid I'll have to wait for the patched kernel image to enter
Debian unstable, in order to check whether the patch actually fixes the
issue. Sorry about that.

yes makes sense, was just in case you can do it. 4.19.13 upstream was
just released. So we will import that one directly and preapre towards
a furthre sid update.

I've just installed linux-image-4.19.0-1-686/4.19.13-1 from unstable
and tried to reboot.
It works like a charm!
