Hi

I would like to upload linux version 7.0.14-1 to unstable. It is a
small release containing a set of selected important fixes upstream.

I will wait that 7.0.13-1 migrated first to testing.

Regards,
Salvatore

I'd like to get d-i uploaded to sid (per reproducible builds people
request) when 7.0.13-1 reaches testing. That isn't a prelude to a
release, so as soon as it's built everywhere on unstable, 7.0.14-1 (and
others) can be uploaded as you see fit.

I'm currently fighthing a depthcharge-related oddity: a build in a sid
development (so very unclean, with lots of history and extra packages)
works just fine, but a build inside a fresh sid cowbuilder env doesn't.

I'm working on understanding the problem and fixing it. If I can't
manage to do that in a reasonable time, I'll probably give you a green
light to upload 7.0.14-1 to sid, and the d-i upload window would open
again once 7.0.14-1 reaches testing.

Sorry for holding the kernel team up.

The same issue happens with daily builds, at least on some archs. Given
the absence of changes on the installer side, the timing, and the
expression of the bug, I'm pretty sure this is due to the Python bump
from 3.13 to 3.14 (which would also explain why my development
environment is behaving differently).

  https://tracker.debian.org/news/1768399/accepted-python3-defaults-3146-1-source-into-unstable/

I haven't tracked down the exact reason for the failure (yet) though.

I'll be filing a serious bug report against depthcharge-tools shortly…

Unless the kernel team is happy to wait until that's resolved, I think
it would make sense to proceed with 7.0.14-1, and try again (to upload
d-i to unstable) in a few days, once 7.0.14-1 reaches testing and
depthcharge-tools is fixed.

In passing, one might be confused by the mix of Python traceback and
error issues: the failure of depthchargectl doesn't trigger the exit, so
gen-hd-image is attempted with parameters computed via shell-based maths
on… a file that hasn't been created by the previous command, hence the
stat/arithmetic expression errors.

Thanks to Colin's prompt actions on #1140927, I'll be giving the upload
another try shortly. It'd be great if the reproducible builds team could
indicate when the tests they wanted to run yield results, so that the
kernel team can resume work.

I'm no expert but that looks rather good:
  https://reproduce.debian.net/excuses.html?source_name=debian-installer

Does that mean the kernel team can resume uploading src:linux?

yes, thanks to the many changes in debian-installer.git added in the last
year and which were finally uploaded! very nice!

It would have been nice to have either scsi-modules [1] on sparc64 switched
to the common module list or at least nvme added to its current list as I
requested around six weeks ago [2].

FTR, 7.0.14-1 was uploaded after green light from Cyril. Note as 7.0.y
is EOL upstream we will next move 7.1.y to unstable soon to make as
well the way free in experimental for the 7.2-rcX uploads.

Salvatore
