Hi
I would like to upload Linux version 7.2.6-1 to unstable.
As mentioned earlier 7.1.y stable versions are EOL upstream so we need
to move to the 7.2.y series.
The upload will be a new upstream version, as usual, with many
upstream changes. There were as well major rework in the packaging,
thus I'm including this time explicitly as well the for flash-kernel
Vagrant.
The pending changes in the package are:
* [amd64] drivers/hwmon: Enable SENSORS_YOGAFAN as module (Closes: #1146756)
* [amd64] drivers/media/i2c/cvs: Enable VIDEO_INTEL_CVS as module
(Closes: #1147085)
* [riscv64] set RISCV_ISA_V_UCOPY_THRESHOLD=-1
* [amd64] drivers/usb/typec/mux: Enable TYPEC_MUX_INTEL_PMC as module
(Closes: #1145131)
* [amd64] drivers/platform/x86: Enable INTEL_SCU_PLATFORM as module
(Closes: #1145131)
* linux-image: Bump Pre-Depends version on linux-base (>= 4.17~)
* [riscv64] Backport support for SpacemiT K1 cpufreq from 7.3
* [amd64] drivers/hwmon: Enable SENSORS_LENOVO_EC as module
* Install vmlinuz into modules directory.
* [alpha,powerpc,sparc64] Only provide SMP kernels. (closes: #1145154)
* Enable Contiguous Memory Allocator:
- Enable CMA, CMA_SYSFS, DMA_CMA, DMA_NUMA_CMA.
- [!amd64] Set CMA_SIZE_MBYTES=128.
* Compile with gcc-16 on all architectures (Closes: #1144298)
* [loong64] drivers/mmc/host: Enable MMC_LOONGSON2 as module
(Closes: #1142793)
* drivers/mmc/host: Enable MMC_ALCOR as module (Closes: #1142912)
* drivers/misc/cardreader: Enable MISC_ALCOR_PCI as module (Closes: #1142912)
* fs/erofs: Enable EROFS_FS_PAGE_CACHE_SHARE (Closes: #1141656)
* Move stuff in linux-libc-dev-*-cross to use gnu type, not multiarch.
(closes: #1144100)
* [arm64] Enable NVMEM_QNAP_MCU_EEPROM as a module for QNAP's TSx33
* Include rsync in Build-Depends-Arch for any build including tools
* [arm64] drivers/regulator: Enable REGULATOR_QCOM_REFGEN as module
(Closes: #1142672)
* [riscv64] Enable RISCV_USER_CFI
* [riscv64] Enable CONFIG_DRM_AST as module (Closes: #1142767)
* drivers/gpio: Enable GPIO_SIM as module (Closes: #1140762)
* [sh4] Disable wireless support to reduce kernel size (Closes: #1141885)
* udeb: Ensure that aead and macsec modules are in the right packages (fixes
FTBFS on hppa)
* uio_hv_generic: Bind to FCopy device by default
* hyperv-daemons: Build using upstream Makefile
* [x86] hyperv-daemons: Install hv_fcopy_uio_daemon and servce
(Closes: #1132305)
* Header tests don't require the binary anymore.
* Generate tests/control from all templates.
* Move linux-*-generic provides into templates.
* Rename signed template to match source package.
* fs/ntfs: Enable NTFS_FS as module
* fs/ntfs3: Do not enable NTFS3_FS (in favour of NTFS_FS)
* [riscv64] Drop NR_CPUS configuration
* [riscv64] Enable GPIO_PCA953X as module
* [riscv64] Enable ARCH_ULTRARISC
Vagrant, flash-kernel might need a RC level bug for the changes around
vmlinuz now installed into the module directory, and then moved to
/boot.
Regards,
Salvatore

At the very least, src:debian-installer no longer builds as a result of this change; I'm looking into it. The last two commits seem to be sufficient to have successful daily
builds for all release architectures. I hope what I implemented makes
sense; if that's not the case, please provide some guidance on how to
best approach this move.
https://salsa.debian.org/installer-team/debian-installer/-/commit/85aae73906771d393403e7f7fca84cd56bc057f5
https://salsa.debian.org/installer-team/debian-installer/-/commit/bcc55ec1cd95f3cd2ac152fcb4fcf8501d64396e
While waiting for the build to finish, I suppose I have a partial answer
to the open topic at the end of the second commit message. The riscv64
build has the following call:
ukify build \
[…]
--linux=./tmp/netboot/vmlinuz \
--initrd=./tmp/netboot/initrd.gz \
so I suppose it still makes sense to move things “out of the way”.
Cheers,
