With "no longer activate the ethernet interface" I assume this means you can identify an earlier kernel revision which did not cause the problem? Two questions: First please try to boot with the most current version available in Debian unstable (6.16.11-1 right now), to see if the problem persist. Secondly if you are able to pinpoint a range where the kernel regressed, it would be great if you can bisect the changes between those versions (if you need instructions let us know). Regards, Salvatore

Hi, I think that I have a similar problem. I have a thinkpad X1 with a docking station. With Bookworm I was able to connect external USB hard drives to the docking station. Now with Trixie the hard drives are not detected when the docking station is connected to the laptop. Even if the hard drives are connected directly to the laptop. If I disconnect the docking station the hard drives are detected. Thanks, Daniel On Sun, Oct 12, 2025 at 7:57 PM Salvatore Bonaccorso <carnil@debian.org> wrote: > Control: tags -1 + moreinfo > > Hi Florian, > > On Sun, Oct 05, 2025 at 02:23:15PM +0200, Florian Hars wrote: > > Package: src:linux > > Version: 6.12.48-1 > > Severity: normal > > > > Dear Maintainer, > > > > when booting connected to a Dell WD19D docking station, my laptop can no > longer activate > > the ethernet interface of the docking station. Please use the "reportbug kernel" command to open a separate report about the problem on your system. We can always merge the 2 reports later if we decide they are actually caused by the same bug. Hi Ben, Sorry, now it's working. I'm not sure why it didn't work before. I think that I plugged the docking station after I turned on the computer. Since I'm not able to reproduce the problem. I won't report the bug. Thanks a lot, Best, Daniel On Thu, Oct 23, 2025 at 12:05 AM Ben Hutchings <benh@debian.org> wrote: > Hi Daniel, > > On Wed, 22 Oct 2025 00:01:52 +0200 Daniel <ganchya@gmail.com> wrote: > > Hi, > > > > I think that I have a similar problem. Any news here? Additionally can you test 6.17.6-1 as it is now in unstable as well? Regards, Salvatore

There were some Dell firmware updates since then, and I have not seen this behavior again. And the original behavior was a bit weirder than I initially noticed, the laptop could activate the network interface if the whole system had been off and disconnected from mains for several hours and I then started it by switching on the power at the mains adapter. I'd file it under weird incompatibility between some Dell firmware versions and some kernel versions, unless it occurs again. Wish me luck :-). Regards, Florian.
