Dear Debian Team,

I hope you're doing well.

I'm writing to report several hardware-related issues that I’ve encountered
while using Debian 12.10 on my laptop. The device is an **HP 255 G7** with
an **AMD Ryzen 5 3500U** processor and **integrated Vega 8 GPU**.

I have tested more than **40 different Linux distributions** on this
machine, and Debian stands out as the most stable and reliable. However, I
continue to face the following problems that I hope the Debian team can
help address:

1. **ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND**
During every boot, the following message appears in the logs:
   `ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND`
This error affects power management, fan control, and sometimes
suspend/resume functionality. It seems to indicate incompatibility between
the BIOS/firmware and the kernel’s ACPI implementation.

2. **Missing AMDGPU Firmware**
System logs show that some **amdgpu firmware files** are missing for the
integrated Vega 8 GPU. This leads to **lower graphics performance** and
occasional glitches, especially during graphical sessions or video playback.

3. **Battery Sensor Not Detected in `lm-sensors`**
When using `lm-sensors`, the battery information such as **temperature,
charge level, and power usage** is not detected. This makes it difficult to
monitor the battery's condition and energy consumption, which works on some
other distributions.

These issues are consistent even after updating to newer kernels on Debian
12.10.

I would truly appreciate if you could look into these issues or provide
guidance. I am happy to share **`dmesg`**, **`acpidump`**, **`lspci`**, or
any other diagnostic logs that could assist with troubleshooting.

Thank you for your great work and commitment to the Debian project. Despite
these challenges, Debian remains my preferred operating system, and I look
forward to improved hardware support in future releases.

Best regards,
**Haider**

Please
- verify you run the latest firmware, and
- check if the firmware got some selection between "Windows" and
"Linux", yes, some vendors do that and it matters.

Please use "reportbug -N 1105978" to attach additional information (use
"x"). And then include the complete log from the current boot.

Bastian

99% of the time ACPI BIOS errors are firmware bugs.  You should look
into upgrading to the latest firmware from the manufacturer. Note: not
all manufacturers support LVFS, you might need to check their support
site.  In any case those should be red herrings to your issue.

If you're missing GPU firmware you should install 'firmware-amd-graphics
<https://packages.debian.org/unstable/firmware-amd-graphics>'.  If
you're still having a problem with missing GPU firmware after that is
installed you should share your package listing and kernel log as
attachments.

Hi

This bug was filed for a (very) old kernel or the bug is old itself
without resolution. Maybe it was for a feature enablement which nobody
acted on. We are sorry we were not able to timely deal with this issue.
There are many open bugs for the src:linux package and thus we are
closing older bugs where it's unclear if they still occur in newer
versions and are still relevant to the reporter. For an overview see:
https://bugs.debian.org/src:linux .

If you can reproduce your issue with

- the current version in unstable/testing
- the latest kernel from backports

or, if it was a feature addition/wishlist and still consider it
relevant, then:

Please reopen the bug, see https://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control
for details.

Please try to provide as much fresh details including kernel logs where
relevant. In particular were an issue is coupled with specific hardware we
might ask you to do additional debugging on your side as the owner of the
hardware.

Regards,
Salvatore
