Package: linux-image-6.12.21-amd64
Version: 6.12.21

Dear Maintainer,

I have usbhid bugs in journal while bootig concern usbhid driver like:

     can't add hid device: -71
probe with driver usbhid failed with error -71

These errors concern usb keyboard which works normally despite these
errors. I have not observed it on mainstream 6.14.1 compiled kernel.

It is interesting because on cold boot there are no such errors and they
appear after second and more boots. Can it be fixed with some kernel
boot usbhid parameter ?

Regards
Edi

Can you please add a full kernel log showing the problem?

Is this a regression from the previous kernel? If so might you be able
to bisect the versions to identify the breaking commit?

Does the version in experimental (currently 6.13.10-1~exp1) resolves
the problem as well?

Regards,
Salvatore

Hi,

One small addition, please add a followup filled with reportbug
ideally so we get the information from the bugscripts as well.

Regards,
Salvatore

Hi,

full kernel log:

kernel: usbhid 1-13:1.0: can't add hid device: -71
kernel: usbhid 1-13:1.0: probe with driver usbhid failed with error -71
kernel: usbhid 1-13:1.1: can't add hid device: -71
kernel: usbhid 1-13:1.1: probe with driver usbhid failed with error -71
kernel: usbhid 1-13:1.2: can't add hid device: -71
kernel: usbhid 1-13:1.2: probe with driver usbhid failed with error -71
kernel: usbhid 1-13:1.3: can't add hid device: -71
kernel: usbhid 1-13:1.3: probe with driver usbhid failed with error -71

There were no such errors in previous kernel before 6.12 but i don't
remember last good kernel version, maybe 6.10 or so.
I have just tested it with 6.13.10-1~exp1 and it is also affected with
same errors.

I didn't observe there errors on 6.14.1 manually compiled but i set
usbhid statically compiled ( not as module ) and make few restarts
without any issues (but maybe conclusions drawn too quickly because
there were too few reboots, i don't know)

Regards
Edi

This is not really the full kernel log, can you still please provide
it in full once the issue has been triggered?

Salvatore

I have just recompiled 6.13.11~exp with statically compiled usbhid and
xhci_hcd and after few reboots same errors appeared. Probably it will be
the same with upstream 6.14.1 but i didn't do enough reboots to observe
this. It is weird because on cold boot these errors never occur but
later after few reboots and it is randomly.

Maybe i can apply some usbhid quirks ?

Edi
