Package: linux-image-amd64 Version: 6.8.12-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-bugs@fhloston.org Dear Maintainer, since kernel 6.8 the ipu6-drivers for IPU6/MIPI cameras require the in-kernel ivsc drivers and the in-kernel ov2740 driver. Please enable the following config options: CONFIG_INTEL_MEI_VSC_HW=m CONFIG_INTEL_MEI_VSC=m CONFIG_I2C_LJCA=m CONFIG_SPI_LJCA=m CONFIG_GPIO_LJCA=m CONFIG_INTEL_VSC=m CONFIG_IPU_BRIDGE=m CONFIG_VIDEO_OV2740=m CONFIG_USB_LJCA=m Thank you Martin

I support this request. This will bring new webcam support for a lot of Intel-based laptops, including models that are actively advertised with Linux support and sold with Ubuntu/Fedora preinstalled. Example: https://ubuntu.com/certified/202301-31165 The corresponding system is called Intel Image Processing Unit 6 (IPU6). Until now, this requires to build custom kernel modules and install firmware from third-party sources on Debian: https://github.com/intel/ipu6-drivers Since kernel 6.10, kernel modules are available in the tree and firmware in the Linux firmware distribution. https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/diff/?id=v6.10&id2=v6.9&dt=2 Regards Stephan

Please note that the options are not configured in the current kernel 6.10.1-1~exp1 in Experimental. # CONFIG_VIDEO_IPU3_CIO2 is not set # CONFIG_VIDEO_INTEL_IPU6 is not set # CONFIG_INTEL_VSC is not set # CONFIG_IPU_BRIDGE is not set Regards Stephan

Hi, It would indeed be nice if the options for IPU6 support were enabled. I tried compiling a new kernel using linux-source-6.10. Starting with /boot/config-6.10.3-amd64, I used make menuconfig to search for the relevant configuration names and then set those to module. Turned out one needs to set just four: CONFIG_VIDEO_OV2740=m CONFIG_USB_LJCA=m CONFIG_INTEL_MEI_VSC_HW=m CONFIG_INTEL_MEI_VSC=m The other ones listed above get set automatically. On my lenovo x1 yoga gen 8, things are not quite stable: e.g., I have to remove and reload the ov2740 module after boot for the camera to be recognized. The same is true when I use the fedora kernel provided at https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/jwrdegoede/ipu6-softisp/ Unlike with that kernel, though, I cannot yet use the camera in any way with the new 6.10 one I built. All the best, Marten

Hi, Upon further testing, I got things to work! 1. One needs libcamera-0.3.1-2, otherwise simpleimage is not enabled; 2. libcamera requires DMAHEAP, so beyond the settings mentioned above, one also has to enable DMABUF_HEAPS (and possibly DMABUF_HEAPS_SYSTEM options; I just set bot to y); 3. To use the camera as a regular user (not root), one needs a version of systemd that includes https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/33738/files (not yet in Debian). One can just edit the relevant file. Note that, as mentioned above, sometimes the ov2740 module does not get initialized properly and one has to reload it. Furthermore, the camera also does not always get initialized properly if using qcam; one has to stop and start capture a few times. Hope this helps others too, Marten
