Can you describe *why* this would a useful addition? 

For CAN_MCP251X the motivation was:
"Without CONFIG_CAN_MCP251X=m, MCP251X based CAN controllers are unusable. 
This is often found paired with single board computers like the RPi, ODROID, 
UDOO, Toradex, etc."

The chip is in several industrial PCs but the most popular device should be the
Waveshare 2-Channel Isolated CAN FD Expansion HAT for Raspberry Pi.
